Check it out:

I want it so bad. Can't wait for this stuff to become the norm in
everyday life like in grocery stores, houses, etc. Sorry if this has
been mentioned before, but I am all excited for the future!

Very interesting. Can't even imagine all the different things one of those could be used for. I would guess that the price tag will be less awesome though. =/

This looked so cool in the early youtube movies but the Microsoft logo on top of it really turns me off.
I hope MS won't conquer the market, but this kind of interfaces is what the future will look like. Would make sense.

i just see it as a nice looking gadget. i think you'll grow bored of it pretty quickly. Come on how many of you will juggle with your photo's one by one if you can do it as easily and much faster on pc (im not talking about the wireless transfer, but really the manipulation). Same thing for maps. Or play a slow cosy game like that. All in all a nice gadget for the average joe or ppl who want nice graphical effects on their table.
These words are my diaries screaming out loud

reaper47: I agree, hopefully others than microsoft will be producing these gadgets, or software for them.
BlisTer: It probably won't work as a substitute for the pc, but more as compliment. I think it will be useful in areas where a traditional mouse and keyboard don't fit.
It must be pretty tiresome for your arms/shoulders/back to use one of those for a long time, especially if you're using the entire surface, which looks pretty large.

yea i can see Surface being a valuable tool in video editing and 3D media. Imagine, being able to nudge that vertex just a LITTLE bit with your fingers, rather than a shaky mouse.
i, for one, and excited.. and call me a capitalist pig, but i hope this market is taken over by MS; imagine any other company trying to implement this sort of technology into windows.. ugh. tablets and touch screens piss me off as it is.

Oh look ... my exact idea.
I don't think I could safely walk around in a world that had Microsoft hardware everywhere ... there's a reason why MS isn't generally contracted to produce software for medical machines, like xray and catscan, they're sloppy.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I saw a page showing the (non-Microsoft) development of this exact product, I'll try to find the link again.

Why would other companies fail to implement it into Windows?
I hope that, in the future, there will be more user friendly, easy to install operating systems with wide support by games and other software so that people can choose more freely what OS to use. If there was more competition in the OS market Microsoft would have to shape up to stay in business. Now you must use Windows whether it sucks or not if you want to be able to play most of the games.
