so I found a copy of Heroes of Might and Magic 4 at Best Buy for $10 so I bought it, however, ever time I run it I get a BSOD, the reason I found out is that HOMM is a 32 bit game, do any of you know any way to run 32 bit software on 64 bit vista?

I tried changing the compatibility mode it ran to Window's 2000 SP 2 and it still happened

Weird. Your best bet would be to look for patches of the game that "fixes" this (even though it sounds like an error with Windows ... unless there's like ... bit shifting in the game or something).

It might come down to finding an emulator type of deal as well.

Just to note, why would you want to run in Win2K SP2? When you don't even get normal functionality until SP4? :P Try running it in the compatibility mode that the game was released for?

Also, what does the BSOD say?

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

something about page files, didn't get a chance to see, it did a memory dump before I could

that was a typo, I tried it with windows 2000 and xp sp2

Did it have to do with ... perhaps ... the not being able to retrieve the Kernel from paged memory? Way to go Microsoft, you regularly lose the Kernel. I mean seriously, that just requires a round of applause. image

Because that's a Vista thing and I get it on my laptop sometimes when I'm just using the OS (it happens when copying files a lot).

But, most games themselves don't support 64-bit processing, but ... the file it self is 32-bit and should run ... so ... I really don't know. It could easily be an issue in the Kernel or elsewhere.

Not only is Vista relatively new, but Microsoft (still) doesn't really have a lot of support for the 64-bit stuff (this includes support from hardware developers too)

I run a few older games -Starcraft, Quake 3, Warcraft- though and have not had any problems

So, then it's the game doing something it's not suppose to?

Look for a 64-bit patch somewhere online (Or a Vista patch). It wont be an official patch, but it may make the game work (much like the patches to make Blood Omen 1 run on XP ... for example).

I just want to note, that so far, I'm both surprised and disappointed with the game support in Vista. While the OS seems to be running faster than XP during games, I'm still unable to install certain games (Like Call of Duty 2!), they just can't get past the autorun screen. (And I'm running a 32-bit version)
