I don't think it was a question of running vis so much as, which tools he used. The universe has a bunch of errors in it and the tools he used failed to report them. 
It would be like all the maps released before 2.5.3

Uhm ... I should probably let you know this now ... Dark Matter isn't anything mystical or unknown. As far as every cosmologist and physicist I've talked to dark matter is simply matter that doesn't irradiate light ... so like ... humans, cotton, wood, concrete, all of these things are examples of dark matter.
The only thing I've heard of that is an unknown that sounds like what you're talking about is the graviton. It's an incredibly dense particle that people think exists (which would explain why gravity even happens). Because of its density it can effect light.
This isn't some sort of dark particle or dark matter, though. The reason why we can't confirm it, as far as I know, is because our particle accelerators don't move the particles fast enough.

To me, solipsism's flaw is that it isn't useful. Like proponents of the allegory of the cave, a solipsist can successfully defend the idea that only his mind exists, but what does he get from his conviction? A little emotional comfort from his justified insensitivity towards others?
I was originally interested in studying philosophy before I realized that many of the issues covered in the discipline are, at least by my judgment, similarly irrelevant. What is the nature of the relationship between subject and object? Who gives a damn? To me, the importance of any knowledge is in how it affects your life and the way you lead it. Everything else is fine to toy with, but practically destructive to give too much focus.
