This is a link to a page on tf2maps.net witch has all of Valves TF2 maps decompiled. Thees were a great help to me. (Especially in the lighting department.) These are the best reference tools.

If I started a site and uploaded decompiled maps for all of Valve's games for people to download freely, would that be illegal?

Valve doesn't sue it's modding community lightly, though. think of what they could have done to the Black Mesa Source mod and all they did was asking them to remove the "Source".

But why test your luck if they're already up on another site, though.

So they wont mind if I have ~100 decompiled-recompiled for goldsource, half-life 2 and episode 2 models?

Not to mention all the sounds and textures I've gotten from half-life 2.

Distributing valve's content without their permission is illegal, yes, whether given freely or otherwise (otherwise would make them angry, i think). That's what everyone who has the game agreed to in the EULA and so they can easily take legal recourse. More likely they'll send a takedown notice to the file distributors, if that. It's easy for anyone who already downloaded the content from steam to get the source though since Vmex is linked to on the valve wiki, and mdldecompiler comes with the sdk.

Lies, damned lies and statistics.

Incidentally isn't the Valve EULA one of those irritating things that makes you scroll down (ie "read it") before you can click ahead? God I hate those things.

the eula states that playing any of the games constitutes agreeing to the eula, so yes, you have agreed to it, whether you like it or not.

I wasn't aware of that. How can I know if somebody else installed the game than left the country. This thread doesn't exist.

Legal systems don't accept ignorance as an excuse, so stop wriggling, you stay on the hook.

...and most of the EULAs are full of things that are illegal in most countries. EULA =! LAW. That's why there's usually added paragraph that says that if some or more parts of the EULA aren't lawful in your country the rest still applies... Although in some countries a license agreement that has illegal parts in it is practically void. The most annoying thing about this is that different countries have different kind of legislation on contracts, so make your own research before you start a war on the matter. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

You mostly agree to accept any random changes in the EULA, surrender your rights and privacy and that you have accepted another EULA which isn't even included. By opening the shrinkwrap of the CD case, of course.

Forget the EULA, I have never read one before, I'm not reading one now, and I don't plan on reading one in the future.
