I just wanted to tell you about something that happened to me 10 minutes ago.
I randomly got this message from "user-verify" saying that my account has been used on multiple ip addresses and that I would have to confirm my user ID and password to him or the account will be shut down in 24 hours. Well, I gave him my user id and passwrod and he said nothing. Than I realized that he was in one of my community groups and quickly raced and changed my password. I did it in time, and I replied to him, that I gave him the wrong password. He than sent a message back saying the user name or password given was invalid, and that I would need to supply him with the correct info. I said back, "What do you think I am stupid? Your in one of my steam groups" And he said, "yes" and went offline. .
I just want to let you know that if this happens, reply back "f**k you". Done give any one your password no matter how convincing they sound.
Edit: I found the bastards profile http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197995870033

:/
This is like the oldest trick in the book for email scams, how could you fall for it?
Plus, one of the important aspects of steam is that you can use your account and games across different computers... so why would valve care about your account being used across different ip addresses?

I have to agree with Yak. Companies go out of their way to tell you they never need your userid and password, and it is precisely because of this scam. Go whack yourself in the head with a frying pan fifteen times. You deserve it.

Yeah I know, I felt pretty stupid. But the thing is, I just started using this account on another computer so he had pretty good timing.

Aaron, there's been multiple instances of your check card being used in different cities. I need your account number and confirmation code, otherwise I will be forced to close your bank account.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Reminds me of the story/chat log of the scammer who fell for nearly the exact same story, from the person he tried to scam... The gist of it:
"i work for steam, give me your account"
"No, I work for steam, if you give me your account right now I won't sue you."
"ok plz don't sue here is my account"
"You are a moron."
Still makes me laugh! haha!
HA!

Account number: 250392
Confirmation code: 17bcd33
Edit: Oh wait, s**t, your crono from snarkpit. I'd better hurry up and change my confirmation code before you access it and get my money.
No seriously, I did learn from my mistake.

"There are multiple cases of email scams reported for Steam. Please do not reply to emails asking for account details as Valve will never ask for your password or personal data per email. For more information and secure verification please only visit www.steamp0wered.com"
And yes, the story Baron mentioned was awesome.

Speaking of hijacking, I just, randomly, was using Gwil's and Aaron's user accounts on the pit. Yeah ... that was weird.

I have to refresh to see my posts, and last night I was getting some server node error or something.
Anyway, that would explain why I was logged.
Ok, something is f**ked up. In the last minute I was logged in as Crono, Gwil (3 times) and wilson :O

hah, this reminds me off the first computer system that was installed where I used to work. It was one of those electronic keycard setups for hotels, but only the dayshift managers had access to it. I got sick of people losing/forgeting/breaking their cards while I was on nightshift, so after 2122 attempts I was eventually able to sit on my arse and make new cards, instead of running up and down stairs all night. ![]()
