I can't play halflife because steam says it can't reach the steam network and shuts down. nor can I reach valve's steam website. I just got home from work and wanted to play some Action HL to relax. I am... pissed.
if it was hacked, that's funny, and Valve are idiots.
if it wasn't hacked, there's no excuse for this pathetic service, and Valve are idiots.
Either way, we know one thing for sure! ![]()

| that is still not an excuse for Half-Life to be unplayable... rather, it suggests how vulnerable and unreliable Steam is |
That if... Power is cut off to the Steam servers, they should keep running anyway, somehow? I think you're just in too much of a rush to blame Valve for everything!![]()

Well, it would be nice if they had some European servers for all those other people in the world who play, or yes some backup power ![]()

The first release was teh horror, but nowadays steam is running OK on my computer. Still nothing compared with the WON-system, but at least I can play now, instead of watching those progress bars go up and down.

Not being able to play is unacceptable no matter how you look at it. Also, if it was a power issue, backup generators and failover systems are the core of any well planned network infrastructure. If they are at the mercy of any storm what comes through I will question my decision to continue to support this game.

There is always the possibility that they do have a backup generator but that it also happened to fail at the same time. It's not likely but it is possible... people seem quick to have a go at valve ![]() |

Valve is quickly becoming the next microsoft in terms of hating it for any half assed reason you get. It's not like they purposefully had a power outage. Oh no you couldn't play HL for a few hours, big deal. Go out, socialise, watch some TV or something.
It's not the end of the world.
