Why bother with a board at all?
The game til now:
1. e3 a6?
2. Nc3 c6
3. Nf3 Nf6
and now I'll move:
4. Bc4

There are a few folks who have posted in this thread that seem to know how to play chess, do I need to name names? Are you guys in?

We now have enough folks to run the competition. If anyone else would like to join, now would be a great time.

Ok, I would like to start this competition soon, I'm going to set a deadline of Wednesday 5 march, now is the time to join in.
We have so far:
aaron_da_killa
fishy
mazemaster
Captain Terror
Just remember, the competition is for anybody of all skill levels. If don't win, you will not loose any "reputation" or be humiliated, its purely for fun. So if you know how to play chess, why not join

Ok, today is the 5th of March so the competition will start now. I have pulled the names out of a hat to decide who will play who on the first round and here is the result:
If any of the players have a problem with this, please let me know.
I will be getting into contact with the other 3 players to make sure they know whats going on and help them organize a game.
To play chess on yahoo games, you need go here. You need a yahoo account to play chess, if you don't have one, just create one here Players need to be in the same room to play with each other, and during the game, players have the ability to chat with each other. You can also watch a chess game so if you're interested in watching a match, contact me or one of the folks playing in that match to get details about when the match will be playin and what room and so on.
So good luck players and let the competition commence. Game on

Don't know yet buddy, let me just finish off a few things and I'll get into contact with you. Use this spare time to have a game or two to get familiar with how it works. Its pretty simple, you'll get it on your first go.
But its really up to the two players to decide what room, sometimes the rooms are full and stuff.

edit i saw you on there fishy but you must've left... I played some other guy and hey timer hacked me... I don't ever remember that happening on the old yahoo chess: is it a new thing? (the guys timer runs out, or stops at 0:01, and he keeps playing indefinitely)

I tried to learn chess quite a while back -- it stuck with me for a little while, but I've completely forgotten how to play it since then.

Nice to see you two guys are working it out
. If I can be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Here is a map of the worlds timezones. I live on the east coast of Australia so my time zone is +10. If you don't have access to any instant messaging program, than maybe state your timezone and what time you will/usually be on so you're opponent can translate to his timezone and work it all out.
Basically when you're translating a time zone, if you're moving forward (eg: +6 to +10, -8 to -2 or +11 +12 to -2 -3) time is moving forward. If you're going backwards (eg: +10 to +2, -3 to -11 or -10 -11 to +5 +4) than time goes backwards. Here is an example. Its 10am in Sydney Australia and I want to find out what time it is in Los Angeles, America. I would count backwards from +10, +9, +8.... or forwards from +10, +11, +12, -12... and would keep going. And Find out that it is 4pm In LA when its 10am in Sydney. Also be wary of timezones with daylight savings. I am experiencing daylight savings at the moment, so my time is 1 hour more than usual. Eg: Normal time = 10am, daylight savings=11am.
.
Anyways. Mazemaster, My time zone is +10 and I should always be on between 2pm and 3pm Monday-Friday. If this time zone suits you, then just name one of these days and I'll make sure I'll be on. I'm on other days/times as well but it varies depending on how much school work or if something is on that day.
