So, the supercollider experiment is going to happen in 44 minutes exactly, good by guys, nice knowing you all.

They're waiting for you Gordon.. in the tessst chamberrr.

Apparently it went by without a hitch, but I assume they haven't got round to the ultra dangerous "lets make black holes under Switzerland" stuff. I still have the crowbar and hazard suit (read: an old coat I painted orange) at the ready for imminent disaster.

Frankly I'm appalled. I've spent the last fortnight in the local city centre ("End is nigh!" sign and all) preaching of our impending doom... and now what? Zip, nada, nothing at all - not even a crater. Not even a small crater. This is worse than the millennium. These so called 'scientists' need to get their act together.

Hmmm...
I think Gordon is thinking something about the supercolider.
Any way,why are they building a machine that can destroy the worwd??? smiley

Wow it has taken me a long time to get this far (wireless playing up)! What I wanted to mention is, I wonder if any of the parts of their underground facility look like Black Mesa. I know one difference; Black Mesa was not purpose built, whereas the L.H.C. place is!

FOR SCIENCE.
Oh and it can't destroy the world, even if a mini black hole is created by the collision, it will only exist for less than a second, and won't be self sustaining and gain mass.
And if it does destroy the earth, I'll buy you an icecream.

Black hole would be too tiny to effect the earth in the first place. As I said before though, I wonder if this facility looks similar to Black Mesa in any way...

Yes okay but let's try to be serious here for the shared passion of Half-Life smiley

Actually, from what I heard, if the Supercollider did create a black hole (which theoretically it is capable of), that uncontrolled black whole could consume the entire planet and everything in it within 0.006th of a second! -You wouldn't know what happened.

smiley
Even if the LHC created a micro black hole it would instantly evaporate due to Hawking radiation.

ahh speculation.

I just finished watching a 1995 episode of x-files called "soft light", wherein a physicist trapped inside a particle accelerator is transformed into a vehicle for dark matter. Sheer sci-fi lunacy for sure, but creepy in that I choose this week to watch a 13-year old show with such similar overtones.

The military interest in the Hadron must be considerable

Experiments like the L.H.C. will make humanities chances for creating an artificial sun far greater. Also, would anyone like to comment on my curiousity on whether parts of the L.H.C. facility resemble Black Mesa? smiley

I personally think the effort would be better spent trying to harness the energy of the star we already have than trying to create new ones...
