So Bungie are about to announce their new game the way they do it the best, virualy and mysteriously.

Last time Bungie attempted to announce their unannounced game, Microsoft last minute canceled their announcement which led to millions of disappointed fans.

I know you guys aren't really Bungie fans, but it was worth a mention.

Well, Bungie broke apart from Microsoft and now Bungie is an independent developer, Microsoft is Bungie's publisher. So Microsoft owns the Halo IP.

Its rumored that Gearbox will be making the next "Halo 4" which sucks in my opinion, not that there a bad studio.

I'm guessing there going to announce their new game on September 25 because thats when Halo 3 came out.

Oh and I know my original post is messy but I couldn't edit it smiley.

I'm not to sure Muhnay, just thought I would spread the news. I probably should have posted this in recently found, probably doesn't deserve its own thread.

UPDATE: They released a teaser trailer! smiley. I have no idea what any of it means but there is a whole lot of stuff in there that's interesting and it looks really awesome. It obviously has something to do with Halo.. but its very interesting indeed. I'm wondering if this is actually Bungie's "main" project because they have made it quite clear there working on 3 distinct things.

It say's Halo 3 at the end.

Also Have you analyzed the video to see if there are any hidden messages or url's for more info?

There are so many cool little scenes in that I could of captured, here are the ones I thought were the coolest, and gave a real good feel for the teaser.. besides the cool computer screen stuff.

The last one leads to a long black scene that then starts to crackle to life and talk about HALO 3.

No, but I have been browsing the Bungie forums and they have found more things than I ever would have.

Yeah, actually, when I saw it for the first time, I interpreted it as "Halo 3, prepare to drop.". And on one of the episodes of the Bungie podcast, the Studio manager Harold Ryan said they where "working on projects way more awesome than Halo 3". And its been said many times by Bungie staff that Halo 3 isn't over just yet, which is interesting.

Thanks there are some really good scenes in there it was hard to pick just a few to represent the movie. I may have to go back and grab the 8-10 face expression on the screen when the computer cameras go down, cut them and try to use them as forum smileys, it covered a whole rang of emotion.

Please enlighten us some on some of the stuff they found or a link to the forums so we can browse too.

Humm yeah didn't Halo 3 already come out.. so wouldn't this be an add on pack, or Halo 4?

holy shit! bungie is still using a shitload of ill thought out repetitive textures, but who knows maybe this time they'll learn how to make a game where thinking is required and a decent plotline

UPDATE: They released the official announcment trailer.

Its an extension to the Halo 3 campaign, just before the events of Halo 3. Looks like you will be playing as an ODST (one of the marines). Different gameplay?

Anyway, I think its really interesting and cool looking.

Looks to be pretty interesting.

-I find it amusing at the end how they 'list' the different reasons why you should be excited for the game. smiley

-They are:
*New Hero
*New Campaign

Then:
*Prepare to Drop. Fall 2009

My thoughts: II like the Halo games, but I sure hope to god, they make a more convincing main character this time and his name doesn't have the words master or chief in it. If Halo 3 is supposed to be the pinnacle or one of the top action games, they could at least make a convincing character that's not just an empty shell. It's possible to make brutal killing machine-like characters without them being completely 'mission-driven' -based on the story. Take Bruce Willis' character in the Die Hard series for example.

-New Campaign? -Really? Isn't that a given? Is this really all they can do to *improve* the game (besides adding to monsters, weapons and vehicles)?

Honestly, at this point, I find them to be milking the brand now. I will play the game, but I'm not looking forward to it based on those *new* 'features'. What makes Halo is its multiplayer gameplay. Another game with a new part of the story reveled (or in this case, a prequel to the third installment but from a different perspective) will not sell. I sure hope they have way better reasons to be making this game, because I feel like I've already played it. smiley

Riven if the film is any indication of the new direction I think we will get everything your wanting and more. The very end with the civil defense computer giving directions.. yeah should be interesting!

This and TRON 2 movie.. life is good.

I don't know, I like the Chiefs character and the way he is, there are alot of other characters in the universe that are alot more "deep" I guess and you get alot of information from them, having the Chief as this blank killing machine sort of helps in alot of ways.

I think its funny how everybody talks about the Cheif and his character, but than you look at a character like Gordon Freeman (Who ofcourse is part of their whole Half-Life > Halo argument) who doesn't speak and is running around a city in a hazard suit, like I know nothing about him and he is a pretty blank guy aswell! I kind of feel that he gets alot of respect and gratitude by the fans and the npcs in the game that he doesn't deserve, but whatever, that's another story.

Its been said that this game takes place in between the events of Halo 2 and Halo 3, I think that's great. There are so many aspects of the universe to be explored many times. While it is possible the Chief could appear in the new game, you certainly aren't going to play him, that's been announced. Anyways, just remember that at the end of Halo 3, Master Chief in exchange for saving the universe, is trapped in deep space for ever with his AI companion Cortana (which I thought was an excellent ending), its sad because he wakes up in Halo 1 from his Cyrosleep and he finished off going back into his sleep. If you finish the game on Legendary, you see him and Cortana drifting towards a seemingly densely populated planet which really gives the fans something to think about.

A bit more information on the Halo 3 expansion pack, Halo 3 Recon, to those interested.

The important information from that is that its one of several projects that a small team at Bungie is working on. This is the closest of the projects to release date and the only one they are prepared to talk about.

The expansion pack will also be using the Halo 3 engine, and there is a multiplayer component (more maps) for the new expansion that will see Halo 3 users and Halo 3 Recon users being able to play together.
