i have also known a few people in the peace corps, and they are wonderful folks, most very satisfied with thier contributions....itll show you, if nothing else, just what yer made of, what yer heart is woven from, and the wonders of other worlds....but 1 word of advice if i may sir....yer a very intelligent person TB...and its a large commitment....and as was said, it aint easy by any stretch of the imagination, especially if you ship out to a truly impoverished area....take good care, be sure, and then give em hell man, as it could well be one of the true highlights of your life.... ![]()

Good God, Tracer as my chemistry teacher. Hell indeed. ![]()
BTW Tracer, if you really want to give people an education in an area where children's learning is limited by their poverty and the clandestine political situation of their area... look no further than California.

domestic need is great as well, and can be equally as rewarding...agreed. ![]()

As I haven't even finished the application process yet, it would be a bit premature to make any judgements as to my "nobility".
Besides my motivations have a great deal to do with a thirst for adventure, maybe more so than becoming a positive force in the world. I just cannot see myself behind a desk, and I'm pretty sure I'm not cut out for R&D.
It's a hell of a big decision. This year is going to be a major turning point in my life. I just want to collect all the information and opinion I can so I don't screw this up. Thank you all. ![]()

My best friend on the net joined something like the peace corps, he went to a 5th world country to teach english.
i talked to him a few times afterward, he was happy but tired often.
i am proud of him, but miss him alot, cause his net connection was less than iffy.
i lost contact with him over a year ago, i miss our hours of ICQ gabs.
if you join, at least settle for a 4th world country, i would hate to lose you too.

i could prolly reach him, via his parents email, but sadly i am a poor email person, i hate them actually
his net was via some sort of inet caf? thing, and often was only one way, him to me, i couldn't gab at him for some reason.
in the end, he was happy, and i was happy for him, i reckon i am just being selfish about it is all, i hate to lose valued acquaintances.
best of luck TB, it could be a life altering experience ![]()

Can't say I know of examples in my life doing the same Tracer, but that sounds like an excellent idea, totally selfless and totally rewarding
Go for it, and if you do end up taking part, I wish you luck and send you a pat on the back ![]()
