alcohol effects the brain, anything with one can get drunk, although popular belief says that, only people with no brain at all become alcoholics.

go figure

Monkeys often get drunk from eating fermenting fruit in the same area of the world I believe!

You need to watch more trashy American college-student themed movies, then. There is almost always a dog who gets stoned/drunk. Its annoying. [addsig]

Koala bears.....

NOT! at least not to my knowledge.

animals often eat fermented fruit tho, horses are known to do it, and monkey's as lep mentioned.

its far more common than one would expect, all it takes is fermentation, and a willingness to ingest it all

If I'm not mistaken, there actually are parts of animal cruelty laws that specifically point to providing any sort of mind-altering substance to animals/pets. Don't expect any pet bars in the near future [addsig]

I know you shouldn't give Valium to a cat; it wont be able to walk straight for 3 or 4 days... a friend of mine tried that once cause the cat was all stressed. It worked fine, but then the cat lost its equilibrium for some time... this beautiful feline looks quite stupid when it keeps falling.

Actually, I worked in a pharmacy for 3 years and it wasn't uncommon for people to come in with perscriptions for their pets (from vets) for something like .25 mgs of diazepam or something.

One lady told us that her cat would totally freak out during lightning storms, so they would pop it a pill whenever one started so that the cat would stay calm. [addsig]

Either that, or they were just druggies that figured out an acceptable cover story.
