You gotta see what this game can do. I am running everything on very high resolution settings, but cannot enable AA due to graphics conflicts. I am only posting links cause they are 1024 x 728, but I dont want to lose anything in translation:

This demo amazes me and if you have broadband you should check it out (500 mb file ya know). Everything you see here is a realistic part of the environment. The trees, plants, grass, all sway in the wind, and the water reflects everything(including youself!). Definitely a graphics bohemith, but worth the download.

In the immortal words of Tyler Durden, sticking feathers up your ass does not make you a chicken, and likewise something with a high polygon count does not equal something beautiful.

I found Far Cry to look rather nice, not realistic, but nice nonetheless. However The visual quality (And I mean quality quite literally as in polys) is astounding, but it doesn't make up for the gameplay. I just find it annoying that Aiming while standing doesn't do much. Or that a hand gun is more accurate then a sniper rifle, not many people shake if they're laying on the ground holding a rifle . . I really think the scope can move slightly without you doing anything, but for it to sway and crap like it does in Far Cry is rediculous, it should be dependant on the mouse movements, but it obviously isn't . . . this happens in a lot of games to make the weapon "fare", if they want it to be fair, make all the other weapons realistic and it will be. Ah . . . but no one will listen to my suggestions. Anyway, Far Cry just seems to be some big ass eyecandy, and The textures are a little flawed in my opinion, they just . . . don't look right. It really is kind of pathetic. Fairly nice engine, s**tty level/texture design. [addsig]

I find it much more impressive to combine gameplay, look and efficiency (examples that you actually understand the game engine and can push it to limits without disrupting the game.) [addsig]

mmm got this game at a lan today

I love the graphics engine, but I agree the "realism" of the game leaves much to be desired... The weapons accuracies are indeed offputting, considering spamming with a P90 SMG at any range seems to be more effective than a well placed Desert Eagle shot. I love the level of interactivity in the game. Me and my friends had hours of fun playing with the objects in the world, with the ragdoll physics

I'm looking forward to this game

Hopefully by the time they release the full game they will have fixed some of the view bugs / AI bugs.

I ran the game on 1280x1024x32 with all the settings at Very High and didn't notice any lag at all. I run my card with AA x 6 .

Note: Shoot the chain the holds up the dead shark, and roll it into the water. It makes a great raft

What is with all the new games? do they try to make the world look like it is made out of plastic? and don't they realize that mountainous turrain is NOT smooth? in many ways I think good old HL is more realistic in appearence than most of the newer games. the emphisis on smooth curves makes everything look wrong.

Dunno, man. I think Call of Duty did a fine job though. And in all honesty, I really think the terrain in Halo looks wonderful, the guns are a different matter lol. As for games that are coming out I don't think the developers really want to make the terrains realistic looking, simply because (take Far Cry for example) They want to use those polys for other things, like water and plants. If they made the terrain amazingly realistic everything else would be compromised, thus the trade off. HL has the ability for some really nice rock terrains, but as we all know, the texture actually has A LOT to do with the way something looks, it can give the illusion of many things, so, it seems, they should adjust their textures accordingly, instead of going back and redo-ing half of the games level designs. (Although it would help.) [addsig]

ATM i am in a rush and cannot comment on the game, except to say that CoD looks better, but that doesn't retract from the beauty of these shots tho, i find the plasticness of them to be nice personally.

but i do feel it is my obligation to say that 700+k jpg's is just..... well you know :/

the links and the warning do help, honest they do, but on 56k? MINUTES TO DOWNLOAD GUYS, MINUTES!

It certainly looks nice, but it doesn't make up for the ridiculous difficulty. And the jeep on that level feels incredibly useless. [addsig]

On one hand, the plants and terrain look good if you ignore the cartoony, high reflective nature of them. The gameplay looks different with all the outdoors stuff.

On the other hand, the over-shinyness of everything looks like crap (or Doom 3) and looks less realistic and convincing than Toy Story. The overbrightening of the graphics makes the fancy foliage pointless as well because it sure seems like it would be simple to pick out the bad guys from the trees.

In short, Ghost Recon pulled off the forest/jungle themes better and a few years ago.

HI_Jungle was better, FFS.

The forest has been an HL mapper's dream for a long time, but just play HI_Columbia - probably the one map to successfully execute the ideal forest, and it's terribly hard to play in because you can't see s**t.

I don't know if that rings true for this game, though.

hahahah my friend with his Radeon 9800 XL (A card made by a Germn company, supposed to be between a Radeon 9800 and a 9800 Pro) played the game fine like mine, until after about 3 hours of playing it, when it got MASSIVE ARTIFACTS. All the models had black blobs around the outside, and even OGC couldn't have made a better wallhack than we had. I think it was his card overheating, does anyone else know? It couldn't have been the demo itself. Also my other friend's Geforce 4 Ti 4200 after playing for about 2 hours on medium level graphics was getting artifacts, ie. the sky brush and anything more than 20 metres away becoming massive blobs. They're probably overclocked at too high of a rate. They'd overheat no matter what game they were playing (as long as the game demanded all the resources) while they were overclocked. There's usually two options, play your games at lower rates and de-overclock the card or get a bigger fan lol.

I'm running the same card as the latter friend, I have it barley overclocked though, since it's fan isn't very reliable past 110% (or so). [addsig]
