Have a birthday that you can set in your profile, and then on the front page or something have a "Happy Birthday to <insert name here>!" message when appropriate. A trivial feature perhaps, but I think it would be good. [addsig]

Yeah, that's a cool idea, and their name could be in a different color or something like that so everybody knows they're dealing with a birthday child!

And it shouldn't default to displaying peoples birthdays, they should have to manually set it. That way, the area won't be clogged with birthday announcements of monoposters.

Why not add a smallish happy birthday smilie under their name? it worked on wireplay quite well, or along the bottom have "3 users are celebrating their birthday today!" (it only has to be small text) ..

only the prolific people will get birthday wishes and so forth, which will eliminate the "monoposter spam" CCS spoke of.
