This is a a discussion topic for the map "POW in the Year 3910" by Necromancer which can be found here Map description: Prisoner of War in the Year 3910
Can you escape the Iridium Fortress?...

You are part of the classified military elite known as Redemption 1. After a failed high priority mission (someone must have sneaked information) you awaken to find yourself a prisoner of war in a uber high-tech maximum security facility.

A more extensive briefinf will be given in the mission briefing of the actual level. This is just a little taste of what is to come! Map screenshots: Screenshots for: POW in the Year 3910

I think this could be my best map yet and I hope everyone enjoys the completed version.

This looks nice, especially the third screenshot, can't wait to see that part in action! smiley

I might just install Sven Coop again for this. Good luck on the rest!

Thanks! I'm glad you're excited about it. (I am too) And the sequence in screenshot 3 is one of my favorite parts too. I hope you enjoy the completed map when it's finished!

Since you are interested in this level I'll reveal a little bit more about it:

1) I incorporated a type of "achievement" system that I call Milestones.
2) There will be an unexpected twist to the level after the shuttle sequence.

Don't want to reveal too much and ruin the surprise. (Not even my brother knows!) Enjoy.

Some more progress has been made. Now I am working more on the milestone system before I add anymore. It will probably be a while before the entire map is finished, but hopefully not too long though!

That's ok, Take your time! And it's ok if you don't reveal too much, I like secrets smiley

The map is complete now! I am just doing some more tests on it before I release it. Shouldn't be too much longer.

Cool! Yea, just take your time, I'd rather have a version that is fully tested, instead of having it early but buggy.

I'll re-install Half-Life now and Sven Coop afterwards.

Can I play it in Single Player as well?

Alright, every time I see this thread come up this song pops in my head

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Yes! You just have to host a game through LAN as if you were to play it multiplayer, but you definitely can play it by yourself. (The same way that you usually play the levels)

And Crono, I always think of that song too. That song did play some role in the name of this level too. And that is one of my favorite songs!

Make sure you download Sveen Coop v4.6. It MAY be required but I am not sure. So be sure to get that to be safe.

When I start the map, I get this error "WARNING: couldn't open redemptn.wad"

I did try to put the wad files in the valve folder as well, but I noticed I don't even have a redemptn.wad file :S

Ok, I finally found the file on the internet and the map seems to be working fine now. If you want to I can send you the file as well.

I'll be back later and let you know how it was smiley

Edit: How do I get out of this room? The door won't open smiley

I am so sorry about that! I completely overlooked that! I will fix that now and let everyone know when it is up. It is also strange because that wad was not in use according to the editor. I guess it was wrong.

That is strange you shouldn't be able to get in that room without it being open.
Did you spawn in that room because the spawn point in there is set to start off? And I never had that problem during all of the tests.

If you encounter anything else then please do not hesitate to ask.

Everything should be operational now. Please let me know if anything else comes up.

I also recompiled the map just to make sure, so maybe that door problem won't happen again. I never had that problem myself, but hopefully it will work out for you. Not sure if it matters but make sure you have svencoop v4.6 if you don't already.

Niborius: Sorry for the inconvenience and I hope everything works for you now. If everything does work fine now then please let me know what you think about it.

That's all right, things like that always happen for me as well. smiley

Yeah I did have scencoop 4.6, and at some point I spawned in that room and I wasn't able to get out. All I know is that, when I was able to choose my own path (The vent or the door) I clicked the vent first, and the button of the door right after, to see if they'd both open. I don't know if that caused anything to bug out or something. :S

I'll play this again in a moment, thanks for re-uploading smiley

It's pretty hard to play it alone though, even on easy, because Sven Coop isn't meant to play in Single Player hehe :P.

I'll just alter the skill.cfg a little to make it more playable.

Edit: I am not referring to your map but to Sven Coop in general off course smiley

That should not be a problem at all. I designed it so that you can only select one path, and even when I pushed both buttons during the tests everything played fine.

Also in the future whenever you get stuck somewhere push the button that you have bound to player suicide; that got me out of a lot of tough spots. I have mine bound to "x" but it can be anything.

No problem...anything I can do to help.

I agree with this too, becuase I almost always play Sven Coop by myself too and I rarely play with anyone else. I also like changing the player respawn time in the cfg too; that makes dying a little less annoying when you can spawn again right away. Anyone hope you enjoyed it.

Got some good news for you:
I finally thought of a possible reason as to why you spawned in that room. After you get the "Escape your Cell" Milestone there is a door in front of you and a button on the right side of it that you can push to open the door. And once you are in that room the spawn point inside the room activates, so then when you get the next checkpoint that spawn point is deactivated and the next one activates.

My theory is that you do not enter that room, so when you activated the next checkpoint then instead of turning the one inside the door OFF it turns it ON instead. (I never even thought about that)

So make sure to push that button and activate the spawn point inside that room (plus there is a more powerful weapon in there anyway) before you continue too much more.

That should (hopefully) solve the issue as to how you got in that room and couldn't get out. Hope that helps! smiley

Just out of curiosity, but why do you make a Sven Coop map if you mostly play it Single Player anyway :P

Is it because of the bigger selection of monsters and weapons?
This map would be awesome as a Half-Life single player map as well. The default monsters never get old smiley

Also, thank you about the hint about the spawn room, I'll try to avoid the bug next time smiley

Don't get me wrong by the way, the map looked very nice so far, but I'll save my review for when I finished the map

Ok! I just finished the map smiley Here's a small review:

The Good:

A good amount of detail
It's good how you tried to give every room some detail, even the unimportant ones.
Show spoiler

More than just shooting
I'm glad that this wasn't one of those maps where you had to defeat a wave of enemies, proceed to the next room, and defeat the next wave of enemies over and over again. Instead, this map had some action moments, some "relax" moments (I liked the room with the bridge that'd come down when you pressed the button) and even some scary parts as well. Show spoiler

Milestones
The milestones were a nice extra part of the map, and just when I thought "Oh, I forgot to write down which ones I got" I found out that at the end, you can see which ones you have unlocked smiley Click here to see mine

The Bad

Lasers
This wasn't really bad, but it took me quite a while to see in what pattern the lasers go on and off long enough for me to go through. In Sven-Coop players are always a bit inpatient (It's that I played it alone now so it wasn't a big deal) but I can imagine players dying a lot at those spots.
In the second laser room I think there should be more space for the safe zones, I was hardly able to jump fast enough because if I walked back too much I'd be killed by the laser in my back.

Spawning enemies
Enemies that spawn by using a teleporter is fine, but at the point where you had to shoot the core of the big door (Not sure what it is called?) with a rocket launcher, a group of enemies suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

Conclusion
It was a fun map with a good variety of enemies, and some neat scripted events as well. The rooms have been given a good amount of detail.
Some obstacles were a bit too difficult to get past, but again, it's no big deal.

I can't say much about the difficulty though as I was playing it alone.

Well done on this map Necromancer! smiley
