Well, its been long enough, and theres a week left before the comp. So, I thought i'd let you guys in on a lil peek

The Classroom

A fountain area

Oh look! Some stairs!

The not-so-great hall

The moving stairs

And what they move to

Dungeons with no dragons

Slytherin Common room

[ Its a bit brighter in game]

And yes, that is a pic of harry potter on a dart board

Comments welcome as always!

pretty cool! I'd suggest more ceiling depth cause its kinda flat and vary your lighting a little bit by adding highlights. Its too murky atm. Swell job!

Looks good, but as I commented early on in the map profile, I don't think the light in that hall would stream in through the windows on both sides of the room.

The area with the fountain looks very square and boring. Vary the height of the roofs and set up a light_environment so it casts some nice shadows and also brightens the area up a bit.

Some more suitable lighting would improve the dungeon too.

Do you guys think that the rotating stairs are OTT? [addsig]

If you can pull them off properly, the rotating stairs should be good. It's really up to how you implement them.

You really need to work on lighting. Not on the amount of light, but on how you place your lights, how they cast shadows, What you can/can't see etc. Except for the first shot, everything else looks pretty drab. Make them brighter, more contrasting. Maybe a few more sources. Up the shadows, fiddle around with the gamma settings on RAD, use coloured shadows, whatever. There's a lot of work needed on the lights. I can just barely make out some pretty good architecture all hidden in the darkness.

Detailing's also needed in the stairs room and the last shot. They all look quite bare and empty. Be careful in the stairs room though... steps generally add a lot of wpolies :/

Thanks for that frag [ adds it to my to do list] The staits start out how they are in the first shot, then when you get to the top of the first set, a set moves into position so you can go to the next, and again for the second set. [addsig]

Some of the rooms feel a bit square, in the books they definately feel more circular.

I don't know about accuracy to the book/movie, but it looks okay.

If you've got the wpolys to spare, i'm pretty sure the rotating stairway area could benefit from more paintings (in the film I distinctly remember there not being a bare space on the walls from paintings).

Couple of the rooms look a little empty...big areas with little or nothing in them.

The default 'green neon' light texture sticks out like a sore thumb in the dungeon. It just looks a little un-natural and too contrasting when put alongside the stone walls

Maybe some lower lighted yellowish lights? Just a quick change in the lights file. [addsig]

i agree with Adam about the lack of paintings. i thought they were one of the more memorable aspects of the movie. (i've only seen the azkaban one) some animated paintings would be cool.

if you could spare the polys, maybe in some of the barer rooms, a couple of vaulted/arched roofs/alcoves would be cool too. i definately remember seeing lots of nice curvy hammer-hating architecture in the movie.

i liked the fountain area. it only needed a lip at the top to suggest a roof.

if this was for tfc, you could collect beans to buy passwords that let you use secret passages.

I might add a laugh into it, instead of paintings, i could have animated models of saddam lol and maybe a chicken. [addsig]

I'd recommend you stick with the theme. If you want painting textures, look up the public max payne .wad.

edit: http://www.cryotank.net/maps/textures/index.html Thanks go to Jinx.
