So wahoo! I made one finally. Adopting all the skills I'd picked up and learnt from the few valuable questions I asked, it's here, my first ever. Go mad for it at http://www.snarkpit.com/maps.php?map=1249.

Why does the zip have a .map file? If you want to release a serious map, compile it first :/

I was under the impression that .map files were compiled. So how exactly do I go about compiling them?

you obviously already compiled it since you're in the map in the screen shots.
You've confused the bsp with the .map.
map files are what are used for editing and compiling. The bsp is final compiled product (which is sitting in your maps directory under half-life). [addsig]

Ah right, thanks for that. ZIP updated, go ahead a download it. Should be good to go now. Talk about getting off on the wrong foot.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but as this is your first map, there is
little reason in releasing it online. Most people keep their maps to
themselves until they reach a level of experience that they can create
something worthwhile for people to play. While there doesn't look to be
anything wrong with this for a first map, it just doesnt seem like
something anybody will bother playing.
If people do criticise you for it, don't let it put you off though - everyone has to start somewhere after all
Good luck as you learn to
map!

I was just really happy I actually made one that is somehow finished. Also, I released it as a testament to all those who helped me. Need their names in it somewhere really.
