The mountains don't look HL2 like at all- did you use the displacement tool on them? [addsig]

A nice attempt at making mountains but they are displaced all over the place and that happens sometimes.

Carry on and i'm sure it will get a lot better!

I'm working on it...

made better mountains

made the support beam thingies on the bases come down and can be used to go up to the top of the base, or to kill yourself with

making sniper platforms - hit a button and it goes up and hangs in the air for a minute, has doors on the bottom that open to bomb stuff! with.. grenades?

Honestly. I say scrap it and try again. It's too open, it's too flat, the "mountains" look like like they were made in a giant sand box, the buildings are blocky inside and out... It's really not bad for a first, second, or even third try, but nonetheless unworthy as it stands.

If the theme you want is two bases separated by a swath of open terrain, make the terrain interesting. Have you ever seen real mountains? Why would there be two enemy bases within easy sight of one another? None of it makes any sense. What you have is UT style arena gameplay for which HL2DM weapons and dynamics are wholly unsuited!

I think you could infinitely improve this concept if you placed a ridge between the two bases with trenches, tress, and various terrain convulsions that would make getting from one place to the other more interesting than walking across a parking lot.

HmmMmm you have a very good point :/

Im pretty happy with it considering it's my first map, i might unofficialy scrap it - there are only a few things i'd like to change, and then get started on a new map....

Well, i hate the mountains. But the bases are kinda cool. Also there is model of a red light...so you could use that instead where all that red light is.

I suppose you used displacement surfaces for the mountains. For such a large surface, you should use a higher power, so you can manipulate more vertexes. All those mountains look quite pointy now.

Hmm, why not use displacement on the ground? I realy dont like the mountains (to pointy and square), use beter displacement on them. That's a realy powerful tool to make maps look good. I can clearly see a skybox leak on the screnshot, you should fix it. A 3d skybox would look realy good, read the tutorials to find out how to make one. Some cool lights would be great too, remember, they look best at night/dawn ;D. More obstacles on the field would also improve gameplay a lot. The map is a good idea tough, but it realy needs some more architecture.
