Hey all,

My latest map, that illustrates how combining good lightning and architicure and nice fps would reflect your map, in this map, there you may notice different light colors in different rooms, i made it just test how can lights look like in hallways and stuff...a nice gloomy map i would say..and im still fixing stuff and the lobbyfull lighted area is still unfinished

P.S. The architicure may not be good, but its much better than my older maps

Tell me what to fix and ill be ready to do fix it
Plus tell me what you think

P.S. Picture #5 is a fan in an open round ceiling, and the white flash represents how you can see light from a dark area.. ( if you didnt know )

Nice HL map... <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

Lighting looks good, except for the last shot - too red for my taste, and it's not clear what sort of area that is supposed to be. The third shot shows almost nothing either (you can't tell how that light fits in with it's environment now). The rest looks good though.

Area's still feel empty but I assume you're working on that. Overall, it doesn't really feel like a hotel - it's too generic for that. I think the textures work against you here as they were used for most appartment area's in HL2 and that's what people associate them with. Add some characteristic hotel area's to give it more sense of place.

I made it hl2 singleplayer, but it made itself HL1, dont know why...
The opening to a fan with a white sprite is like an opening through the roof, and the red lights, i just felt like adding different lightning, so i can test how lights could reflect, and for the textures, i didnt find any texture that matches what i got in mind, and i wanted to remind you that the dirty walls in the first couple of pix are the abandoned part of the hotel, there are 2 rooms you should enter to get to the other hallway, but freewebs sucks, and didnt upload the pictures, so ill do tommorow, and for the charaterstics, can you tell me what may i add?? <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

Characteristic... well, Google for some hotel images or visit hotel sites. Whatever, just make sure you get some reference stuff. Right now I could say a reception bar, a hall with elevator access and that, rooms with number on their door, things like that. Anything that makes people associate it with a hotel...

florescent tubes don't throw light out directionaly like a spotlight, so pic 2 looks a bit odd. also, the bright flare of the point spotlight in pic 4 is too far out from the lightsource.

Getting some free webspace for yourself isn't so hard these days, and you don't need much (yet) for this map. I used websamba.com for a while, I think it's decent enough for what you need now. People can download instantly without having to register or even seeing another page, and that's good, isn't it? <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

Its listed as HL2 SP. The 1 in the corner just means 1 player, just look for the squared sign to see if its HL2.

Also I'd be careful about being self proclaiming about certain aspects- mainly your good architecture comment. Personally it looks like terrible architecture, but good construction (the fact that what you have looks realistic, but that doesn't mean it looks good).

If you want to make it look good you should make the build art deco kinda style. By that I mean sorta georgian period buildings with the nice shallow domes in the cielings with artistic carvings in and decorative trims etc. Derelict/scabby buildings of that style are quite common, and you'll realise it looks better. Max Payne used art deco alot. Heres some images to give you an idea.

I personally suggest playing Max Payne 1 or 2 to get a feel for the style in a derelict stage (if thats what your going for). Using this style is a good way to add alot more detail to your map without too much effort (a few custom textures and a few skirting boards etc).

Thanks -Myrk, ill look toward better architicure
And btw, its much better than my older maps...much better indeed, thats why im happy with my results, im focusing more into FPS, where my other maps lagged like hell, this map contains areaportals and hints, which i havent been able to accomplish in other maps...
I may not be perfect, but this map is the best i got, until now...

You might wanna zip it. Zipping BSP's can [in some situations] reduce the file size to 1/10 what it was before. I can't really test it anyway, I always use my laptop nowadays. I'm considering selling my desktop and my laptop to get a beast of a laptop with uber graphics card etc. Laptops with docking bays are the way forward.

Ah the Dark is back <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
I'll give this a go sometime but for now accept my picture review!

The lighting is quite good, probs better than mine <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> I usually make nice lighting by accident :P
The architecture needs a bit of work however and I think you should add more supports and stuff...

Remember that dm_abandoned? That wasn't half bad, I hope you don't mind me using that by the way cause it was a good map <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

Latest picture of maps added...

Ok guys, the latest pictures of this map have arrived, now i want suggestions and ideas to enhance it more... in the lobby, im thinking of removing the metal pillars that are supporting the structure, and make it horizontal to the wall, or vertically but from the structure to the roof, or just add clip tools at the pillars so that you wont get hold off while running through them...if you didnt get me, please download the map, and tell me your suggestions
