From a Melbournian, to the SnarkPit community. As fires got out of control, many towns burned, some were reduced to rubble.. So this here is my heartfelt wish that the current death toll of 135 does not rise any further, even though it is expected to pass 200. To all Victorians who lost their lives, R.I.P., and to all Victorians who have lost their homes, there's always time to re-build.
This thread is dedicated to all affected by the bushfires.

Wow, That sounds terrible. I just did a Google search to find out more info about it, and they're saying the fires were lit deliberately! (Source: The Australian)
-And burned down the whole town! Wow, I hope they can get everything under control. -Will you by chance be affected by this Dedi? I mean, could the fires possibly actually harm your property or town too?
I hope they catch the people who started this!

Yeah that blows my mind that arson is a possibility. We have major forest fires here in BC regularly but they are usually contained by the excellent fire crews. One notable exception was in 2003:

But still, 175 dead and rising?? That's terrible

You oughta come to California round about september, October. We usually lose a couple of million acres a year, hundreds of homes, and yes there are deaths. Sadly, a great many of these forest fires are set by arsonists. Welcome to humanity. But you have my sympathy for the poor pewople of Australia.

Generally the bushfires occur in less populated areas that have a lot of forest. Luckly for me and all my relatives, we live in a densely populated suburb, and to date in history, fires have never spread as far.
Yes, it is believed that an arsonist has lit the fires and our prime minister describes it as mass murder.
Unfortunately, since I posted this topic last night, the death toll has risen to at least 173 according to Channel Seven news. There are 26 fires still burning throughout the state.

Yeah, we had a few bush fires in Sydney but not as bad as whats going on in Melbourne at the moment. It should rain tomorrow and Thursday in Melbourne though so that should ease things a bit, it was raining today in Sydney. You guys have gone from a heat wave to bad bush fires!

Yeah, they say on the news we should prepare for more heat waves. I wish I could go and help fight the fires, but as I am not old enough and can't do so, all I can do is hope for good.
Ironically, further north, Queensland has been underwater for quite a while..If we could somehow bring the floods from Queensland to Victoria, all would be solved.

If they manage to catch anyone there will be mass murder charges facing them according to some news I caught earlier. A horrible situation made more unbelievable by the callous nature of this minority who made the problem worse.
