So I thought I'd created a thread for the development of my own flash platform game I'm making from scratch for my multimedia major project I've been working on for around 2 months now.

I won't go into the specifics of how the game works quite yet, I'll discuss this over time, the engine is still very young and there are alot of features to implement, art content to me made and levels to be built and populated.

If you guys are interested, please download the latest build of the game which features the beginnings of the first level morphed awkwardly into the prototype level I used for testing the stability and workability of the code.

DOWNLOAD LINK : Pre Alpha Version 0.1

[LATEST VERSION HERE]: version 0.2

Here is the main gist of the story:

"You play as Marvin, an 8 year old fast food addict. At the time of an unprecedented alien invasion, Marvin refused to leave the all you can eat food buffet where he was gorging on an array of food. Now, the buffet is out of food and you must make your way to another fast food restaurant before Marvin's energy runs out!"

Anyway, please bear with me, there are alot of aspects to discuss which I will get to shortly. So again, if your interested please give it ago (download link) and let me know what you think if you can, excuse all the placeholder content. If you find any bugs or your experiencing poor frame rates please let me know. You need Flash 9 or higher to run this game. If your unable to execute the .swf but have Flash installed, try dragging it into a web browser. If you use this method to run the game however, stability, quality and performance is not guaranteed.

=================================================================================================

Latest Build: Pre Alpha version 0.2

Release Date: 08/09/2009

changes include:

- Player can now fire burgers using the space bar. Only one burger can exist at once.
- Implementation of a z0 layer (layer infront of player) to simulate objects that are infront of the player.
- Removal of prototype level, addition of tile002 from the first level.
- Reduction in player jump height (sorry haymaker I liked the jump also but considering the resolution the game runs at (640, 480) it makes things difficult gameplay wise.

Known Bugs As Of: 08/04/2009

- Pressing the left and right arrow keys at the same time, releasing one and pressing it again or similar can cause unexpected results.

LOL'ed, very nicely done. To think I used to pay 25 cents a shot to play a game like this for 5 minutes!

Runs flawlessly on ffox 3 0 8, even with the drag and drop. I like the scale of the jump too.

Good luck with this! Now I'm wishing you would make a Defender emulation. I've played lots but even the xbox version doesn't come close to the arcade.

Thanks guys smiley

Alrighty, I've done more work on the game, changes include:

- Player can now fire burgers using the space bar. Only one burger can exist at once.
- Implementation of a z0 layer (layer infront of player) to simulate objects that are infront of the player.
- Removal of prototype level, addition of tile002 from the first level.
- Reduction in player jump height (sorry haymaker I liked the jump also but considering the resolution the game runs at (640, 480) it makes things difficult gameplay wise.

If you guys are interested in any of the above features, you can download the latest build here. I've added alot of npcs to the level also so you can try the burger gun against the bots. Its also a good opportunity to test performance since AI is the most performance costly thing in this game so if your getting lag, let me know smiley.

Edit: Darn it, we still have that 30 minute post edit lock, its not uncommon to edit the first post in a thread smiley. Perhaps I need to bug Riven to update my post!

Ah, sweet, thanks man smiley

And yeah tnkqwe, if you can't execute the file as it is, just open it up with a decent web browser and it should work.

Yeah, that ROCKS! Thanks Man. I like the game so far.. the zombies and the dogs, I had the sound up way too loud last night and I walked away for a second and then I hear these monster sounds and it freaked me out so good work there.

Dont forget the load screen, where you get to have the introduction to your game and a chance to show off your artistic talents even more. You know the screen that has the options, the control link, the start a new game that sorta thing.

Well I wanted to pipe in.. its looking good man.. keep up the great work, and thanks again for making me famouse!
