Map description:
Yet another Kill Box remake. I started it before finding out many others were being released. After seeing the others and how they differed from the original, I decided to release mine feeling it was the closest to the original.
Not for everyone, but for those who loved the original kill box, this should bring back that same fragfest feeling.

What more can be said about a box? Other than that it's a box. The idea is simple and this map must have been made in less than 30 minutes, if not, seconds. It looks like more time is spent on putting this map up on snarkpit than creating the actual map. Well, it's a not a real map, but a hollowed out brush.

Which leads me to the gameplay. It's pretty horrible. The box is kind of big.. well, huge. Which is also a bad thing. It does have a few walkways though. But they're just stretched brushes. Also, it has a few magical floating brushes in the air. Most with weapons and a spawnpoint on them.

Now, the thing that makes it so damn bad is that if that if someone has an RPG, you're dead meat. Because of the map's huge box-ness, you shouldn't even try to run away. Better yet, just leave the server and delete the .bsp off your computer. Just do it. I did it too. It's best for us all.

Verdict

A big hollowed-out box with some props and floating brushes. At least it's not fullbright.

I didn't know these kind of maps exist at the Pit. I probably won't be able to defecate for a month after running this map.

Yak_Fighter..."another scotty Map"? Who the fock is Scotty?

Anyway, like Pericolos0 said, "[it's the] best map evr!" Well, not as good as dawghouse, but right up there. I know you're all just jealous that something so simple could be so leet. Keep at it, maybe, someday, you'll make it big.

For the time being, I recommend eating two tangerines and watching "Maria Full of Grace". It'll do wonders for clearing out your colon being that most of you are still anally fixated. Satchmo told me so.

I'm all for being understanding of people new to mapping, even if they commit the cardinal sin of "releasing" a blatant killbox, but to then gloat over it and act as if your work is better than that of others is just laughable. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if its this map that tops the most downloaded list here or wins the Valve mapping contest, or something that took somebody a sizable amount of time and effort.

Reno...The track record of killbox already stands as the most popular, longest played map of HL history and I believe that's the source for all this hostility towards killbox. Elitist mappers have their panties in a big ole crusty bunch that such an abomination of a map could be so popular above and beyond their artisticly superior map of superior complexity.

Maybe these mappers (so quickly to criticize, so lacking in understanding) should actually download and play killbox before rating it and maybe learn a lesson or two about gameplay; the real factor in making a great map.

As far as my version of killbox is concerned, only time will tell whether or not it catches on. With all the other killboxes out there, I'm not really counting on it. However, if it does become as popular as original you won't hear me gloating, because all the credit goes to Ooblik, the original creator of killbox for Half-life.

That comment seemed a lot less arrogant, which is some consolation at least. I disagree that Killbox has good gameplay, and I've played (and made) a fair few maps that could be shoved into that category. However, if that sort of map is your prefered gameplay style, then there are plenty of maps that are laid out similar yet have at least seen some level of care and effort put into them. I'll never understand why Killbox is so popular, I really think the gameplay is as poor as the visuals, but to each their own. Just realise that while amongst some players Killbox may be seen as a good piece of work, amongst mappers it is unanimously acclaimed as the worst use of polygons yet seen. As such, don't be surprised when your work, if it carries on down this line, is ridiculed.

Oh and I've bumped up the rating to a 2 - at least you have lighting

I'm sorry the automatic filter confused you. Is "Just another piece of crap map" clear enough? By the way, I have in fact played killbox and discovered the true joy of running through one of the most unentertaining maps ever. It has no gameplay. None! There is nothing redeeming about a killbox map, although they do show who the s**tty mappers are and who the mindless players who have no taste are. Fools like you are why I can no longer enjoy HL2DM without playing through a hundred different clones and reimaginings of this s**tty map. None of them are fun or worth anyone's time. I don't care if it's the most played custom dm map ever, it still sucks. No amount of idiot server ops and clueless, talentless players will change that. And guess what, you suck for not only releasing this, but defending it as some sort of wonderful thing.

Rhino im not going to rate it, or play it for that matter. Here at the snark pit maps are looked at as art work. And kill box is just a splash of the ugliest grey color on the canvis, what skill does it take to make or play a big open room? There is no gameplay to it at all. Ill agree that it is the widely played map ever in half life, but there is no style to it, and placing this map here was bound to get a lot of negative responces. so deal with it, and maybe next time you will post something worth playing.

Just a hollowed-out brush. How long did you spent on it? I assume about 10 mintues. Taking my dog out for a walk takes even longer.

Rhino I have not played your map. IF you say it is fun then that is most important. I am sure you have the ability to make somethink visually more agreamble to the public, without negatively affecting gameplay. But its your map so your call.

Some of you people really need to pay attention and maybe, just maybe, read the .txt file for once.

[Time for the numbered list...]

1. Yes, it IS a B..O..X.. A BIIIIGGGGG, FRIGGGGGIN, BAAAWWWWWXX. That's why it's called killBOX. (geez, geniuses here)

2. This is a remake of the original killbox. (Some of you need to look up "remake".) It's mean't to look and play like the original killbox with a few minor changes and the obvious weapon differences. This was NEVER intended to be unique and original. Any of you actually play the original or are you completely ignorant.

3. Yes, I could have spent more time on it making it more "artistically" appealing, but I didn't because...1) I wanted it to be just like the original, with some minor changes, and 2) I wanted to work on my original, Valve mapping contest entry. There's only so much time, you know.

4. I released it because...there are a lot of people who enjoy playing this sort of map. (I know you'd like to send them all to an internment camp, but that's what it's like living in a free country.) Unfortunately, for most of you, maps don't have to go through a review board that imposes their definition of "releaseable material". Or maybe that's a fortunate thing because maybe some of your works wouldn't pass muster either.

5. I don't give a crap if you don't like killbox. (It's not my design, so really, most of your criticisms don't bother me. REALLY.) If you don't like it, don't play it, but if you don't play it, don't review it. mmmkay!? You wouldn't want anyone reviewing your map without actually playing it.

[End of general list.]

Now, if I may, let me address a few people specifically...

pepper...I never talk anyone out of expressing their own free will.

Omegaslayer...Who died and made you Art Tzar? It's a good thing the Snarkpit has you to tell everyone what art is. When Castro dies it looks like you'll have a country to run. Consider this dealing with it. Personally, I think you're the person that needs to "deal".

whiteLegion...Some of the wisest words said, thus far.
