So I got my HL1 dedicated server up and running (Grimlock's custom maps) and I'd like to add some bots. I spent several hours researching on the internet today but I can't seem to figure out which mod (if any) to use. I tried "severian's mod" but could not get it to work. I'm hoping one of the snarkpit crew can enlighten me with an easy solution to getting bots up and running, with our with out a mod. Thanks.

That said, I think that The Specs would be the way to go if you want quick and easy bots.

Well, from what I've expirmented with, The Specialists has the superior bot ai, not to mention that its extremely easy to set them up. And to add to that, The Specs's bot system comes included with the installer, so you don't have to worry about a secound download. The only disadvantage I can see is if for some reason people didn't like the added stunt system/oodles of weapons/new hud. That said, I think that The Specs would be the way to go if you want quick and easy bots.

Now remember kids. Asking questions is a good way to get censored by the government.

(Posting with a PDA, or atleast trying to...)
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to give it a try and see if I like it.
What would be your suggestion if I find that the mods changes stray too far from normal deathmatch and I want to try something else. What would be your next choice for a bot mod? Does the basic steam server install include bots?

This is my favorite. You can set all kinds of options in the config file. Like if a bot has to be kicked when a player joins the game.
For your server I'd also request using AMX MOD X. It enables map voting and many other things.

I'd say HPB Bot. http://hpb-bot.bots-united.com/downloads.htmlThis is my favorite. You can set all kinds of options in the config file. Like if a bot has to be kicked when a player joins the game.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know anyone that would be willing to share their config file for HPB Bot or AMX MOD X?

AMX MOD X should be fine already, you just need to write the names of the maps you're using in a certain text file so it enables map voting. However, I can't remember what the name is of that file. It should be in something like: half-life/valve/addons/amx mod x/configs
Sadly I don't have the config file for HPBbot anymore, but hey, it's easy to edit, I was able to edit it when I was 9

do a google search for jkbotti and give that a try. I believe it has recent updates and after trying it out last year, they worked pretty good and learned the maps on their own... no creation of way points needed.

latest 1.42 jkbotti d/l
http://koti.mbnet.fi/axh/jk_botti/jk_botti-1.42-win32-linux-i586.zip
I used it with amx modx which is a good server script for admins and includes metamod and an auto installer even has option to install via ftp to your server if need be.
