I recently got a new computer and I am trying to get everything to work again. And I tried running my mod (Which worked perfectly on the other computer) I tried to play it and an error came up that said something like: Half-Life launcher has stopped working and something has caused it to stop working properly. Then it closes.
Does anyone have any ideas? Also, this happened to Opposing Force when I installed it and I reinstalled and that worked. But there was nothing to install here though. And HL and opposing force have both been running properly.
Thanks.

I have a little more information now. This is also a mod for Opposing Force. See if this helps at all. Now the console screen shows up and it says:
unable to open sound/ctf/pow_big_jump.wav for transfer
unable to open sound/player/p1.wav for transfer
and there are a lot more than this but this is an example of what displays.
The really troublesome thing is that I did not change anything in my mod from how it used to be on my old computer. Also I noticed that in the valve directory there is not a folder called sound. Is that normal because on my other computer I did have a folder called "sound". (But I may have added it myself) I checked these folder and paks in both valve and in gearbox.
Also it should not matter because the pak0.pak file should have the sounds. Also I would like to point out that the pak0.pak file does not have "ctf" folder at all. And gearbox had a "ctf" folder but it was empty. So I found the wanted wav and put that in there but still did not work.
However, I did try to put these files in my mod anyway (even though they were NOT there before and it DID run) but the same error still comes up)
Is it possible that Half-Life did not install correctly? (Half-Life and Opposing Force both do run fine though)
I hope this is enough information to get some kind of idea of how to resolve this issue.

What OS was your old computer, and your new one?
Also were you using steam with the old ones? Or the non-steam version? Something tells me that this may be a problem with the old engine trying to run on a new system.

The old computer was Windows 98. And the new Windows 7. And it is the non-steam. (Non-steam on both computers)
But if my levels work running through Hammer then why wouldn't they work running through custom games?
Also, the actual HL and Opposing Force games work fine too.

What exactly does it mean when it does "for transfer"
Also after all of these warning messages are displayed the console then says "processing sound/ctf/..."
Could it be possible that the reason it is not working is because HL is not the latest version. It is currently v43/1.1.0.6 (It was 1.1.1.0 on my old computer)

Everyone please disregard the sound "for transfer" error. I discovered that has nothing to do with the problem because this same error comes up on my old computer as well and it is still working fine.
So back to my other theory: Do you think HL needs to be updated to 1.1.1.0? I would just try it out for myself now but my bandwitdh usage is too high right now so I am unable to, so that is why I would like to know what you think.

Give it a try. I think the only sure fire way to get HL1 running on anything past windows XP is to download the steam version.

I was able to download the update to 1.1.1.0 and now my mod works fine. And I did it without steam.

I guess you just googled for those updates? -or do you have a nice friendly hub that let's you download them all? Because we could host all those updates in a .zip or something right here on the Snarkpit, if you point me to where they are? I know there's a lot of people still looking to game and mod without Steam.

Yes, I did just google search it and I would have posted the link but Omegaslayer already found it. Thanks!

These 'missing sounds' are from CTF mode, Op4 has CTF mode in his engine, but the CTF content was cutted for steam version
