I started working on my mod again (Depraved), and I was wondering, is it possible to have a short video play upon starting the mod in the same way that the original Half-Life loads the Sierra and Valve videos? I have a video that I would like to use, but I am not sure how to get it to play. Thanks!

What happens if you name it the same as the intro videos for Half-Life?

I tried that, but it still did not play. Any other ideas? Also, thanks for that idea!

I tried converting the video to have the same frame width and height and the video attempted to play, but it said something like: video cannot be found (it only appeared very briefly) and then the the valve video played after this error. However, no matter what I do now the video will not even attempt to play nor will the valve video even play. It did not try to play after doing nothing different and it also would not play when I tried experimenting with different video conversion options.

My video is mp4 and I converted it to avi and changed resolution, frame rate (if it matters), bitrate, etc... but no luck :{

Any more ideas out there? Thanks!

Hmm, I honestly have no idea then. I never created a Half-Life mod before so I hope someone else can help you out here.

Good luck and let us know if you managed to get it to work!

Not sure if it will help but:

The video still doesn't work, but the error message comes up every time I load it now though. However, I am unable to take a screenshot of it. The text is cut off a little and it does not stay very long, but from what I can tell it says:

Video not available, cannot find VIDS.MF42 Decompressor.

(Not 100% sure about "VIDS" but it is something like that though)

I think that Half-Life only supports a certain kind of codec for the video to be able to play the video. Yours is probably using a different one.

I'm not sure which one this would be. You can have the same extension but if the codec is different the game may still have problems reading it.

If you want to be sure what the error message says you can try to record that part with fraps, then watch the recording frame by frame.

That's all I can help you with for now I'm afraid.

Thanks anyway! It would be cool to have it, but it is still awesome even without it though.

Hi,

The video needs to be created with bink: http://www.radgametools.com/bnkmain.htm

The program is free and not too hard to use.

Contact me via my site if you need help.
