But why not make one, instead of prefab?

I think it is somewhat foolish to entirely dismiss prefabs as a useful addition to levels - yes, they may be overused by newbies and a lazy way out, but there are some excellently made (aesthetically and technically) prefabs to use in your maps!
However, I do agree too many prefabs spoil the broth - used in moderation and in the right situation they can inject some really interesting visual and playing points into a map. Double jeopardy really!

I think we should be able to agree, though, that a bookshelf is in the "make your own" category. You want some crazy platform with entities you don't know how to use? Use a prefab. You need a biplane and have no clue how to make it? Use a prefab. You need something that consists of just a few generically wood textured blocks? Spend the five seconds at the editor it takes to make it.

I'll get ya some bookshelf textures...
and the comment about the beating is based on the fact that I know him in real life...and I'm sure he knows my anti-prefab sentiment. ![]()

Fair point Cash, fair point
I must say I was commenting in general on the prefab ethos, but yes - if youre making a bookshelf, do it yourself ![]()

yes i'm sure you can gorb...
i wanted to use a prefab because it will be more than just a bunch of shelves, i needed books on it, and i didn't know about the "bookshelf" textures which i am more likely to use seeing as making all the books myself would probably slow down the map..
