I am having a problem with Hammer in which I will save a map as a .MAP file but when I open up the file in Hammer there is nothing but void. My RMFs and MAPs are saved in the Hammer/maps folder and I have tried putting the file in Half Life/valve/maps folder but I get the same thing. Can someone please help me.

I've never encountered this problem. How big is the .map file? it ought to be smaller than the .rmf but it should to be at least 50-100k. What about the compile, does that work properly?
What I'm trying to find out is if you are having a problem with exporting the .rmf, or only with displaying the .map. If it's only a display problem than don't sweat it. there is no real reason fot you to be mucking about with the .map anyway.

I also get this problem. The .map file will still compile though, just Hammer doesn't like showing what's in it ![]()

| Try opening it with QuArK then saving it again then opening it. Although I really suggest you use RMF only while mapping in Hammer unless you like stuff disappearing on you. |
Stuff only dissapears when you:
Use cordon bounds
Have hideously complex, yet valid object. If the map file says "235802395 solids were deleted due to errors in the file" then those solids were probably crap to begin with.

Sorry to say but you are all hideously wrong.
The cordon tool is turned off.
I want to look at the .MAP file to make sure that I don't have any funky brushes.
I even made a second map which was a box and saved it to a .MAP but I still only see void.
Compiling works but it does not generate a .BSP. Probably because there is nothing to compile in the .MAP file.

Mayber you should make a NEW file, then save it directly as a map. Not export an RMF to map file.
I don't use rmfs. That's what I do ![]()

Don't listen to blue ball... You can't save VisGroup settings with .map files, and when your level becomes anything larger than a single room, you'll have trouble working further.
