1.1million solids. is that right? does your map really have that many brushes that can go wrong, or is this a decompiled bsp?

No I don't have that many solids it says that for some reason. (that was not sarcasm)
Also I just rewrote 0s on the hard drive 2 weeks ago and reinstalled everything. I don't know what is wrong but it's not fixing itself. I cannot even map unless this get fixed.

Decide whether or not you're gonna work with rmf or maps before you map. If you wanna use a map file, then you should start with a map file, not an rmf.

I am working on a DoD map and I saved the map as an RMF and then a MAP. I went to open up the MAP file and it said "1107321 solids have not been loaded due to errors", then it says and error has occured Hammer.exe will now close. I tried compiling the map from the RMF but in the compile log it says nothing was compiled because there were no solids. I have tried everything but can't seem to get it to work. HELP MEEEEE. ![]() |
A few things
- DON'T reformat your disk , reinstall windows, sacrifice your PC to cthulhu, etc. it's not worth it.
- First off, try "Exporting" to .map, don't "Save as" .map. See if that makes a difference.
- If nothing helps, reinstall your Editor (VHE, I'll assume). Get the 3.4 version, as well as the 3.5 beta. Try both individually. Make sure you don't lose your RMF in the process.
- Don't work with a .map file. That's rubbish advice. Work with an RMF, because that's what VHE's designed to handle.
- Does your level consist of a lot of carved solids? They could have fragmented into those millions (it's a slim, chance, but maybe..) cut down on the bad solids. Reconstruct them properly.

I have done all those things. I always export to MAP. My level is fine. I even created a box map and it did the same thing for that. I always work with RMFs. I can't compile the map because the MAP removes all the solids when it is loaded into Hammer. I have tried compilintg from the RMF but it does the same thing.
P.S. I am pissed off and you guys aren't helping.

You cannot compile from the .rmf. The editor always exports to the .map file first. What you are saying is that the .map gets corrupted/erased whether you try to open it hammer or not, correct?
I suggest that you try QeRadient I don't know if it will open .rmf or .dxf files, but it's worth a shot. it sounds to me as though your export feature is somehow completely borked. maybe some conflict with another program

the reason it says that, is because that's how many solids it counted and didn't want to draw.
i also asked if this was a decompiled rmf you were working with. that wasn't sarcasm either, btw. ![]()
the reason i asked this is because the 'good' decompiler will take a big cube shaped brush, and decompile it into six, 1 unit thick brushes. a 1unit thick brush for each original face. so using the decompiler on a big map can result in crazy numbers [like 1.1million] of solids being created. say an average of 8 vertex points per solid, and you've got hammer trying to draw over 8 million of them. i'm not surprised it crashed.
or maybe, as you say the rmf is ok until you try to export it, you could zip it up and have someone try it on their comp? i'd give it a go.
if you're not sure about trusting me with your work, then i'm sure there's some others here that you would trust who would be willig to take a look.

Yes that is exactly correct. This only happens with my Steam games. I am working on a DoD map and it keep getting the error when I open up its MAP file in Hammer. I do not get this error for my Half Life SP map when I open it up in Hammer. I have the disk for that so I am not using Steam for Half Life.
