I compiled a map today and went to go test it on steam. Its a DoD map. When I went to start new game and clicked on my map nothing happens. I can click on the other maps and they start right up. I checked th compile log and everything is fine no errors at all. I have both axis and allied_info_player in the map. I don't get any errors when I go to click on the map so I don't know what's wrong.

try loading it single player maybe.

maps don't just "not load" there is always a reason.

as for how to load single player in steam, you got me, but i know it can be done, or did before HL2 came out.

Is it hanging up on the load screen? Or is the game actually "locking up" and sitting there blankly? Are there any sounds in the map? If there are, check the path names of them - make sure they're correct. [addsig]

paths are corret. It doesn't lock up it just sits there. Loading screen never comes up.

Start HL with the console enabled (Command line switch: -dev -toconsole ) Then load up your map from the console directly (Command: map <mapname>). Look for any error messages and post them here.

aaah ,i had that too,

try re-compiling it, it worked for me,
maybe theres a small leak or something that's not causing great compile errors or something like that,

i had it once too when there was this error :
"textures not alinged to face properly"

it's also an error that doesn't come up with alt-p all the time

I think I might know what's wrong. When I first started making the map is was going to be a paintball map. I then decided to make it for DoD so I deleted out all the entities and setup it up for DoD with DoD entities. This might be wrong. If it is then to fix it all I should have to do is copy and paste the map into a new file.

This didn't work either.

hmmm,

did you maybe download an updated fdg file (or fgd or whatever) and use it in hammer but not in DoD so you use entities that are updated in the new fgd and not in your game itself ???

The fgd is fine. I made a box map to test and it loaded up fine.

hmm, i'll see what else i did when i had this error, i've had it like 100 times, most of the times i just re started the map or canceled cause it drove me mad

but,

you could try saving it under another name and then compiling it or, re-doing alll the entities.

i think it's either a corrupted file , like i had once , or a wrong entity.

it could be brush work though, i have it with a prefab of mine, never been able to fix that one, and theres only one light in it (point based light entity)

For nagging 'errorless' problems with maps, I sometimes find opening the map in hammer and copy+pasting it into a new one works. The tried and tested technique of 'voodoo mapping'. [addsig]
