hahahaha... Simpsons.
In any case, making a custom .res file is a simple process. Orph says there's a tutorial on the site, so you might go looking for that.

The Natural Selection Mapping Guidelines has a brief section on making a .res file.

That's a great explanation of how to make .res files by hand, but RESGen is even faster and never will accidentally forget to list a file. I am a very happy user of RESGen. The thing is, though, is it's a DOS program, it runs via commandlines. So, the best way to run resgen, if you don't like opening up DOS windows and remembering funky commandlines is this:
- Download Resgen and stick resgen.exe somewhere. For sake of argument, it will be C:/zhlt/resgen.exe
- Create a new textfile. This will be a .bat (batch) file to run resgen for you. Type:
C:\zhlt\resgen.exe
- This will run resgen for you, but resgen requires the map name be inputted by commandline. The commandline for this is "-f [map pathname]" so the full line should now read something like:
C:\zhlt\resgen.exe -f c:\sierra\half-life\valve\maps\vernon.bsp
- Save the textfile as resgen.bat and please note the extension
- To check to make sure it worked, look at the icon for the file. If it looks like a notepad, make sure there is no .txt extension to the name. If it looks like a tiny window with a gear on it, then the file was created correctly
All you have to do now is double-click the icon and it will generate a resfile for your map (in this case, my map Vernon). In order to change what map the resfile is generated for, simply right-click on the .bat file and choose Edit from the menu. It will load up notepad and you can switch the mapname to whatever you need.
Once you're set up, it's really effortless. It makes a good checklist for when you're packaging your zip. It will also toss standard hl stuff in the resfile, like halflife.wad, but there's really no reason to worry about getting rid of it - it's not like pure text takes up much disk space.

NOTE: This forums is discriminating on my back slashes. All forward slashes ( / ) are really supposed to be back slashes. |
boy, nothin gets past you cash, the fact that it took you a couple years doesn't mean sh*t.. you eventually caught on
to my knowledge, SP has always done that.. it sucks, especially if you have really long paths, and a bunch of them (my tutorial on HLCC had a buttload)
/me points to cash .. you swift devil you ![]()

I remember them disappearing if I went to edit during SP v3, but if I typed it up and left it, or went and manually added em back in every time I edited it would be fine.
besides, I wanted an excuse to type in cyan.
