a radio on someones desk, the air conditioning whining, phones ringing, a modem connectiong, traffic outside, screaming brats in the waiting room. i could go on. offices can be pretty noisy places.

How about some soldiers chatting behind a locked door, so when the player goes to it they think a load of bad guys are going to burst through.

If you look in the C:/Sierra/Half-life/valve/ambience you can always nick sounds from other peoples maps and any defaults in there.

If you've got a microphone you could always make some of your own up or record strange noises or something.

If you have opposing force, try looking there for a wav file (I can't remember what its called, something like neon.wav) which sounds like those humming strip-lights. That could help matters... [addsig]

if i may....the only real way to make the ambience of your map "sing through loud and proud" is to do your own sounds.....its really not that complicated, and a hella lotta fun to do.....actually, fun for the whole family if ya do it right....

and there are plenty of free sites on the net with tonage of sound effects....personally, im pretty fond of sound forge 4.5 to do my editing on....very user friendly...

Dr Brasso...dodgy:

We did a short module on soundforge at uni here, seems like a cool program. Only thin I could make from scratch was s**tty explosions and gun shots, but it was fun to muck around in [addsig]

Well I guess I should have told you at the beginning that the office complex is in black mesa and it's in the future so black mesa is really old and under ground. so hardly anythings running.

And thats another thing how could I make it look 500 years old with out making new textures? and if I really have to make new textures what program would you recomend?

I'd recommend photoshop for making textures, or if you can't *ahem* afford it then you could go for Paint Shop Pro which is notably cheaper if thats a concern Alternatively, there is the humourously titled "GIMP" that you can download for not even a penny, and its supposed to be quite a decent tool.

If you dont wanna make textures, and need a 500 year old look, then I really suggest you look for some already made custom textures, take a look at the wadfather...

Just make sure in your 500 year old building that there aren't florescent lights and Coke machine prefabs everywhere.
