Basically, I have problems selection things in the 3d window. Often it will selection a brush or face behind the front one I click on, or select nothing at all.

Yes, I tried reversing the selection order. I'm having this problem with the texture tool as well, which is really annoying. I think I remember having this bug before and fixing it somehow, but I just installed Hammer on my laptop and I can't seem to get it sorted. Could someone help me?

every 3d related issue i have seen thus far has always been rooted in the drivers, maybe this one as well..

worth checking into maybe..

and welcome home jinxy

Does this only happen when you are particularly near the face in question? If so it happens to me as well, and the only solution seems to be to backpedal a little and then select it.

On the other hand, this could be caused by you not realizing there is the depth selection thing in the 3D views now, so when you hold down the mouse button it will switch between objects deeper in the viewport? I'm sure you knew of this already, but worth asking!

I didn't know it did that - very handy tip though!

I had a problem with drivers on my old computer - for some reason I couldn't select anything in the 3D view at all, but I reinstalled my GFX drivers and all was well (though for about a week I was mapping without being able to use my 3D view before I realised what was wrong )

I know about the depth selection thing where you hold down, but that doesn't really solve my problem. It's still inconsistent which brush gets picked first, and having to cycle through every time I want to select a brush is a pain in the ass. And that's no help at all with the texture tool.

I guess I can try updating the drivers. But I'm not sure where I'll find drivers for a crappy 8mb Trident laptop card. Naturally I got this thing right before they started putting decent cards in laptops

I'll try that 'stepping back' bit, too, though I don't think the distance seemed to matter.

I had the problem before, and it was due to drivers.

Found this for ya:

Trident sold this chipset to VIA, and VIA provides drivers for it as Apollo MVP4 (VT8501 + VT82C686A/B)(KLE/PLE Display Driver). Please go to www.viarena.com click on drivers and then in Integrated Graphics Controller/Display Drivers (windows users) then select "VT8361 - KL133*, KLE133; VT8601 - PLE133, Apollo MVP4 (VT8501 + VT82C686A/B)". It worked fine on a Compaq Presario 7476. Now I have a a VIA Tech VT8501 graphics controller but, whatever, it works fine.

Try the site mentioned there. If that's no help give it a googling.
