I am reconfiguring hammer editor to do the final leg of revisions on klingon_b4 and I noticed that all the standard HL wads have been removed in favor of the new steam format. I need them though don't I? Can someone tell me of a tutorial for re-configuring Hammer for steam?. I have already re-directed all other options to my steam folders but can't find the original wads. Do I copy them from the game disk?

Aren't those wad's stored in that giant halflife.gcf (in the steamapps folder) ?

I'm still using wad's from my old HL installation. I'm not trusting that steam thingie for th?s. Wouldn't know how to find those wad's in that humongous steam folder, either.

My suggestion: Install halflife somewhere and use those wads.

It's a thread about a program called SteamDumpIT. I haven't tried it, but it dumps all files of each cache in a directory of your choice. Thus, you'll get your halflife.wad.

I have a solution for your problem.

There is a beta program out that extracts things from GCF files used by steam, also it doesn't require you to log on to steam to do it.

The only problem is that the program is a beta and the guy who made it used the .NET frame work, so you need the framework as well. But never fear because it's all accessible through this link right here including the actual program.

The link has a brief explanation of what the program does and the links for downloading the program and the .NET framework.

So far the program is very simple to use. You just open the .exe, no installation needed (because you have to have the .NET framework) and it?s as simple as opening the GCF and right clicking on you want and saying 'extract'.

If you don't have expansive bandwidth and you can't download the .NET frame work, you'll just have to wait until there is a version programmed that doesn't require it.

Anyway I hope that helps.

I almost forgot, yes the .wad files are in the GCF files which are in your steam folder. [addsig]

If you have the hard disk space, I really recommend using a non-steam hl install. I'd like to know how well these other things work though.
