I was wondering if it is possible to export an entire level to 3dsmax or maya or one of the other many modelling programs? Not the entities or anything, but just the main level geometry itself. The buildings etc.

It occours to me that hammer is just a BSP modelling program, so surely someone has thought of this before me?

I was under the impression they could read .MAP files (and a lot can also read .DFX- I think this is a Lightwave/AutoCAD format?- there's an option in the 'file' menu to export to this)

Most 3d modellers can read .DXF (AutoCAD drawing interchange format). Just look for it in the import list, or get the reqd plugin.

But DXF can't store texture information, AFAIK.

I think the .map file format read by top 3d programs is a completely different thing from quake (half-life) .map format. Max cannot read .maps of any sort.
