How much does 1 meter in reality represents in VHE? Is it different depending on which game/mod I'm mapping for? [addsig]

Well, due to the nature of the grid divisions and all that, it's more convenient to think of it in inches and feet - A standard player is 72 units tall, and with the assumption that an average person is 6 feet tall, that translates to 12 units per foot or 1 unit per inch.

This isn't an exact conversion, but a meter is about 3 feet 3 inches and so that'd come to about 39-40 units.

Of course, there are weird issues with this. Player bounding boxes are 72 units high and 32 units wide - how many standard proportion people do you know who are nearly 3 feet wide? The models are not truly that wide, of course, and I believe are better proportioned, but you shouldn't use the 1 unit = 1 inch scale as an exact measure by any means. The best method is to use that as a rough approximation, and then from there make adjustments for proper proportions and appearance from the player view. [addsig]

Yeah, just start by making 1 room/environment in your map, make sure that scale fits your needs, and then just compare your next rooms with that room.

Eevry texture has a different scale to it. According to VERC, there is no relationship. try making stuff at the scale 1:1 and you will see it will look sort of funny. I do know, however, that HL2 will allow you to change unit-to-world ratios, like you could make one unit one foot, meter, half a mile, the latter would make for tremendously large yet un-detailed maps. I hope I solved your problem. [addsig]

Is the size of one unit different for different mods like HL, CS, NS? [addsig]

A couple mods have, using different hull files, made maps at smaller scale to give the illusion of larger levels (HL Rally and I think Morbid Inclination). The major mods are all pretty much the same, though.

CS player models are smaller than standard player models, as are NS ones (the marines, at least), so for these in particular you really have to be careful on the scaling, but in general the same idea applies. It's not a huge difference, but things have a tendency to be overscaled anyway and that can just be magnified with the smaller models. [addsig]

i hid a ball inside a crate on a tfc map. one side of the crate was illusionary, so you could crouch-walk into it. when i loaded it as a hl level, the opening was too small, and i couldn't get in. so i guess that like the cs player models, the tfc models are also smaller than standard.

Unless you have a different hull file (i.e. NS for the skulk and Onos or the car in HL Rally) player characters are always 72 units tall when standing and 36 units tall when crouching. [addsig]
