Ok, I have no idea what I did or did not do, but it does not allow me to select in the 3d view the way I used to. I recently reformatted my hardrive, and so I re-installed Valve Hammer Editor 3.4 then upgraded to 3.5beta and no matter what I do, what options I select, it will not allow me to select items in the 3d view like I used to. This is a HUGE problem as I can no longer successfully select the items in my map and it's a huge pain in the ass. I have searched and found no topics relevant to this. Hopefully someone knows what's wrong.

You need to click on the cursor at the right of the editor first, and if you're in 3d (wireframe), you cannot select any solids. If then it doesnt work I have no other ideas.

I have already done that, and it has not worked. I'm in the 3d textured polygon mode.

Ok, now there is more to the problem. I have a feeling it's not working because it's not switching to the 3d polygon view correctly. Whenever I close out of it, the window closes but apparently it's still running in the background when I check it with the task manager and I have to end it in order to open another one. Also, once reopened it does not remember any settings or states so it goes back to the 3d wireframe view.

Let me guess: you're using an ATI videocard and the latest drivers?
Then you may want to check this out: ATI Radeon cards and HL1 mapping
Good going, ATI. :/
