Oke guys, here is my problem:
I bought a new pc with a ATi RADEON HD4850 and installed the needable drivers for it. I also run vista on this pc.
When I load hammer, and I open a map I cant select, or aply textures in the 3D window. I know this problem and I know howto fix this in Windows XP > download a old atioglxx.dll file.
But with VISTA its new for me. I tried allot of atioglxx.dll files. And also some old vista atioglxx.dll files. They all worked. But the 3D window LAGGS like crazy. Its not fun anymore, even after 5 mins your getting crazy. It looks like the 3D windows runs with 10FPS or something.
I googled ALLOT, and tried ALLOT! But till today nothing worked propperly. Is there somebody with almost the same specs and got this problem to? There must be some people who have the same thing!
Thanks already!!!!

Does your new graphics card support OpenGL?

The ATi RADEON HD 4850 is next to the 4870 the newest videocard from ati. And I downloaded the latest drivers. So it should have opengl .. right?

Of course it supports OpenGL.
Anyway, it sounds like a driver issue (Or DX). Unless they update the driver for Vista, it sounds like you're out of luck.
Have you checked Steam's support area on steampowered.com for information?

It defiantly sounds like your OpenGL isn't working, if your card supports OpenGL than I agree with Crono and think it must be a driver issue. Make sure you have the correct and most up to date drivers from the ATI website or other trusted driver distributor.

That's the problem, though. Most of the time the newest ATI drivers don't exactly work properly.
Something you could try is using the drivers distributed by the manufacturer of the card. Sometimes, the manufacturer will have a driver link on the site for support of your hardware, and it's usually not the newest one out there, but the newest one they support.
Something else I thought of, check the draw distance for the clipping plane and models to make sure it's not too high. This can make it lag quite a bit.

I know that Problem about unused Camera view. Look at my idea from Thewall. But ´Thewall has only German-Language.
Can you use with VirtualBox and mounted directories like /half-Life in VirtualBox.
Do you want to look my screenshot: Sorry that picture is big and hasn*t English-Language. Thanks!
Note: Do not set back with hardware acceleration!!! Because Ati-Radeon HD and Ati-Radeon versions haven't special setting. Thans Please use Ati Control Parental- and Encoder with atimenc.dll per regsvr32. When it can not work than you can use Valve Hammer Editor 3.5 in VirtualBox. Have Fun, Virtual Mapping!
