Hey Guys

As you may know, I'm working on a game which is due in roughly two months called Starvin Marvin. I'm experimenting a bit with the art style and I'm just wondering, which of these two styles do you personally prefer?

Photorealistic

Dreamy Cartoon

Photorealistic

I like those graphics more, not sure why though.

Btw, is it allowed to use source textures? I see you did that smiley

I think the better one is the one, which fits with the stile of the game better.I mean that if the game is dreamy cartoon style, use Dreamy Cartoon,if it's photorealistic style, use Photorealistic. It's your choise.

-If you keep that pixelated version of the player's character: Starvin Marvin, then it makes sense somewhat to do a cartoon style as it matches his cartoon look. But yea perhaps not the 'cartoon' style you pose in your post, but definitely something not 'realistic.' I think to rpg's like Golden Sun or something -that kind of style.

I like the sharpness of the first choice. But the outline of the second has that rough side scroller thing going for it. And as Riven said your cartoon Stavin Marvin being cartoon, would be better set in the second choice.

Unless you can get a picture of a fat kid, or one of your buddies to be Starvin Marvin, so its all the same. smiley

Yeah, I used a few Half-Life 2 textures and sounds (and might use some music also). Is it allowed? No, but its not like there going to undertake legal action over this and I'm not really interested in publicly publishing this game anyway (at least not anytime soon), if I ever do publish this game then I'll be sure to remove the Valve content (and content I used from other games) smiley

I think I might just stick with the Photorealistic style, although I would prefer a cartoon/pixel art style, there is no real method you can do to transform photorealistic graphics to a pixel art style or the type of cartoon style I'm after and I've already started the game with photorealistic graphics.

I also like the Photorealistic style more because it looks more 3 dimensional.
