Gmax Question

So I have been digging around looking to try some GoldSrc modeling, as per Muhnay's interview recommendation, and I found a Gmax download. I also was fortunate enough to find the SMD import and export plugins. The only problem is that after I open Gmax and click anywhere in the grids or 3D view

it flashes that whole area white and stays white seemingly frozen in that way.

Does anyone still work with this program enough to have a solution to this problem?

Hmm I used GMax for my goldsource modeling too but I've never had this happen to me.

No results from googling the issue?

I couldn't find anything new enough to apply.

Well are you on Vista? Because there is a known problem running GMax under Vista.

If you're on Vista try changing the colour scheme of windows to vista basic.

No I'm running Windows 7(although I did try it in basic for kicks and it still didn't work). I updated the first post to have better detail about what happens.

Just to note, 7 uses the Vista kernel base. So, if the kernel does something a certain way that the program can't cope with, it's unlikely it'll work in anything based on that kernel.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Try running it in compatibility mode for XP. Might also be graphics related too. smiley

I cannot help thinking that the XP compatibility mode for Win7 would be any better than the DOS compatibility mode of XP was.

That said, strange things often fix problems with computers.

Ahhh I think I know what it is. Try using the DirectX driver not the OpenGL one. It's in the preferences menu I think.

And where would this preferences menu be?

Also, I tried it in compatibility mode for XP and it didn't change anything.

That's not a reference to this is it?

If it is you should be ashamed, very, very ashamed.

Actually I haven't a clue what you're talking about. My post had snoopy dancing and he looked rather pleased that you solved your problem.

Course they do silly. I just don't see the reference other than it was his catch phrase... Not his personally so I used it.

Anywho's glad your problem is resolved.

Maybe I should just stop trying to make jokes on forums. Seeing as they always backfire or end up misinterpreted.
