i had a go at making some trees and hedges, and was quite pleased with how they turned out. the epoly is only 4300 in the pic, and w_polly is under 200.

but i've a feeling i'll hit some other smelly limit if i use too many models like this.

Whoa, those are really nice mate, they are entirely models right? The bark on the trees looks a bit...iffy in places, but all round really nice job [addsig]

cheers Reno. and yes, all models. i sort of got the idea from when i was hiding in some bushes in a game of splinter cell. (nice looking game, crappy gameplay)

you can sneak about in these hedges too.

considering, how damned few quality plant models exist, i am quite please with these..

i feel the colors might have been improved, but the structure is damned convincing... IMO the colors look misaligned, bark tends to flow up/down on the trees where i live, but otherwise they are 9/10 in my book

Those look pretty good! I'll put them up here on the models download page if you want. Although, much as I've tried in the past, I've never been able to walk through bushes :/

That's because you aren't an elite TFC master

i think for realism, there should be some cat or dog poop under those bushes..

Is that a TFC map you're making ? Would be a lot different from standard-style TFC maps, and I love that idea.

I think the bushes should look a little more solid. very nice though. [addsig]

thanks guys. that was my first attempt at making trees like that, and was done as more of a concept test. the good feedback is encouraging me enough to go do it again, with more time taken on texturing. hopefully i can come up with some sort of garden/forest set, but i imagine it'll take me a few days.

and no, it's not any particular map in the pic, it's just a testbox to showcase the models. but i will probably use the trees in a tfc map that i'm working on with a friend. i might even make those ones climbable. we'll see.

Tree ferns have a thick cylindrical trunk like a palm tree, only shorter and much more 'hairy'.

they look OK, but I'd go for the normal trees.
