I got all inspired a minute ago to install DOOM on my windows XP...

...I saw a great big WAD file in the doom folder, when I atempted to open it in wally, wally claimed it was an "unsoported wad format".

Is there a texture program out there that is old enough to open the file, or does anyone know a webiste that has the original textures, but in the correct format ? (must be compatible with HL).

-Thanks

assuming doom 1 follows the quake genre' (yeah i know doom came out first assholes ) all you need do is get the pakscape program from here in the files section, and use it to open the PAK.. extract the textures, then convert them with wally..

texture conversion with wally is a searchable item so i won't go into that portion..

all else fails.. contact Kampy.. he has all of them already.

[edit] this is an editing question, not art [/edit]

Doom .WAD files are levels, not textures.

I tried pakscape on the WAD, it said it was a "pk3" file.

Never heard of such a thing (probably something that was used 10 years ago )

I've searched the internet for gldoom and windoom patches, but none of the links seem to work (I assume the more modern the patch gets, at some point they are going to have to have something rather modern)

I'm going to try something that just might work:

Load up WC 1.6.

Activate the "Texture extraction" program.

Run the program on DOOM and see if I get a result.

It's worth a shot -- I guess.

you listen poorly, lep and i both answered you..

lemme try once more.

as old as doom is, there are sites still dedicated to it.. ask them.. or do as i said, contact kampy.

(look, I found the quote button! )

I just bashed out a very long and thorough post... all to have go back to the webiste (see link) so I could copy the url and post it here... so this is a shorter version of what I wanted to say...

I was listening to what you were saying -- but none of your solutions were correct. And I don't really want to bother Kampy about the textures, because I think that's a little... much, asking someone for all of the Doom textures.

(Also I'm trying to stay on good terms with everyone here, so I make as much effort as possible so people dont consider me "annoying" or "nubish"....

Then everyone here would hate me and want -------> )

But I found a site that has original DOOM2 textures--- so I can work with those.

those textures are so low quality that you probibly could make them in wally pritty easy. [addsig]

Being the DOOM guru that I am, goto google and search for wintex43. It can open any doom wad file, the reason wally cant open it is because wally is for only textures, doom wads are completely different, as youll soon find out!
