I'm looking for a good art pen and I'd like some advice on a good brand. I'm looking for a black fine tipped pen and one that I can control its darkness and lightness according to how hard I press. Any suggestions? [addsig]

If you're using it for inking just use a foutain pen. You know a container of black ink and a changeable metal tip foutain pen.

They're way better then anything distributes the ink for you. You have much more control on the saturation of the image.

But other then that, I wish I could remember this one brands name, they're really nice (Better then PrismaColor's pens). I think they start with an 'L' ... as if that will help.

Bic makes the best ballpoint pens. Yes, there are better pens but they're way more expensive. A Bic costs 50 cents and lasts for months. You can control the lightness/darkness easily and the don't leak (at least I've never seen a Bic pen leak).

WARNING: Do NOT use a Kilometrico pen for art!!! Kilometrico pens are just plain s__t for art!!! If you buy a Kilometrico pen you will regret it. [addsig]

So are "Bic"s. You don't use pens that leave imprints.

Biros have to be the worst thing ever for inking an image. Don't use biros. Ever. Its like colouring an oil painting with crayons. As crono said, fountain pens. Even the wierd disposable fountain pens suffice. The denting involved in even drawing a straight line with a biro screws up an image, and in general, even in writing I have always preferred fountain pens. [addsig]

It's awesome too, because you only need one pen. You buy different tips for various effects and I've had the same bottle of ink for 6 years.

If you want to pay more than 100 times the price for a fountain pen, you can. But their's absolutely nothing wrong with Bic's. You must be thinking of another brand of ballpoint pen, like Officeworks or something. [addsig]

bic's and biros rule - NOT for full drawings, just random sketches, there are cheap, efficient and break you into the "no errors allowed" ink medium extremely well.

No.

Not to mention the ink within Bic (as well as any ball point pen) is very shiny once dry.

For a profesional looking piece of art you should never degrade it by using a ball point pen.

I can't believe you're actually arguing this.

Maybe you've never made anything worth using good supplies on?

Crappy ass idea sketches are great for ballpoint pen usage.

Crono, I have a few things to say:

1) WTF??? Bic's don't dry shiny! Kilometrico's do, but not Bic's. Bic's are great.
2) If you use a Bic correctly it doesn't degrade the art.
3) You'd better believe I'm actually arguing this.
4) I'll post my Bic art as soon I'm done with my RDI ray traced avatar.
5) With CorelDRAW 3D modelling package, I can create 5000 polys in 5 min.

like Gwil said... ...bic pens are okay for sketches.

However, I recommend you invest in something a little more professional if you desire to create fine art.

The best thing about BIC's is that you can find them for free in little baskets at banks and such. [addsig]
