Hi everyone!

I have a little problem, i just don't know how to make transparent textures in HL? . I've got theese .tga files (fences rails etc) that i've converted with vtex.exe, but i just don't know how to make the blue sections transparent. Some of them actualy worked first but the more i try, the more textures stop working.

So, how do i make transparent textures?

I think the blue has to be the last colour in the palette or something. [addsig]

Please you muppet! Thats HL1! All you have to do is create an alpha channel and then he presto! (The alpha channel is that ev0l layer made of just greyscale, and I think white means seethrough, black solid, but you might wanna un vtf a texture to see).

Yes, it shows where it is black in the alpha channel (since im viewing all the channels at the same time)

Well your images don't work anymore so I can't specifically see. I do know however that HL2 uses alpha channels for transparencies, not blue texture 255. In your alpha channel is your black texture 0 0 0 or the black version of red? It has to be greyscale, not colours else it messes up. [addsig]

(the pictures above is currently unavalible due to server errors)

Hmm.. ive noticed that Adobbe photoshop is unable to actualy save the alpha channel in Targa format. The "Save Alpha Channel" checkbox in the "Save As" window is greyed when i select "Targa (.tga)". And if i open it again, the alpha channel has disappered. Can tga really support Alpha channels? If yes, then Addobe Photoshop sux.

Targa does support alpha channels. They save no problem in Corel PhotoPaint. Looks like Adobe Photoshop really does suck. [addsig]

So the only thing i need is some software that supports targa width alpha channel, ok this thread is closed.

No, Photoshop supports TGA alpha saving fine... it always has done since like v5 or something, maybe earlier... I advise you stop using your poorly ripped h4x edition and get a good version [addsig]

Try this Photoshop plugin, should give you access to alpha channels: http://home.scarlet.be/~ruben121/Tutorial/targa_plugin.zip

Photoshop supports TGA files, but not alpha channels, the plugin Leperous gave you will fix the problem.
If you still have questions about it, read my tutorial on Transparent Spraypaints, it's the same principe.
