Ok, i have a small request, well, that could vary. Would it be possible for someone to make a small command line application that could automatically generate those little text files with normal map details, then run vtex and compile the textures. If anyone has realised there is an environmental variable %sourcesdk% for location of the source sdk, it may be helpful.

The filetype (as been told by valve) is .tga and the extension of the normal maps is texture name + _normal.

so for brick1.tga (for example) the normal map is brick1_normal.tga.

all i want is a small app that outputs (tex_name.txt) the texture details text file, and whether it detects if its a normalmap and whether it runs vtex is optional.

Cheers, I will owe the coder a great deal if they make this as it will make converstion of textures a lot easier!

Also, if anyone wants to know how to make normal maps and tga files for textures en masse from image file formats, use photoshop's automate feature and record a saveas tga task and a normalmap task using the nvidia tools.

I should have mentioned this is for Half life 2

and the materials tutorial on bumpmapping may be useful: http://www.snarkpit.com/editing.php?page=tutorials&game=HL2&id=122
