A quick scene I did up in Cinema 4D which is the modeling program we use for the game dev course I'm doing. smiley

What school are you taking that course in?

I'm doing it at Tafe, it's an Australian thing.

Something I was doing for fun, I modeled some things I own:

Well done smiley I like the shadows.

Maybe could have used some purple light effects coming from the lamp though
I also have such lamp btw. smiley

Pretty nice. You can recreate your room to see how the models look in game.

Edit:

By the way, this is how one of my textures look like while I'm working on it.

Thanks allot, Aaron! smiley

That's a nice brick texture. Does it tile? -It looks like it will since I'm guessing you took the effort to get it in-game, smiley.

I had no idea goldsource could do detail textures like that for lighting. Do you do anything else with the detail texture other than make a greyscale version out of the original? -Perhaps mess with the levels or curves to get more noticeable edges to look sharp!

but, if those are gonna look like those other screenshots you already posted in your citizen_arms thread, then I imagine it's gonna look good enough.

Pretty good! Although it has no distinct features (a good thing) to give away the fact that it is tiling, it's quite low res so it may still appear to tile from a distance. It could also do with some sharpening it's quite blurry, just in photoshop filter > sharpen > sharpen once or twice will do the trick.

Looking at your source photo, maybe next time you could take the photo a bit further away from the wall too which will give you a better result provided you have enough megapixels to still be able to capture the detail of the individual bricks from that greater distance.

Ah, Aaron makes a good point. There don't seem to be enough bricks in the texture to warrent them covering a standard-sized wall height, meaning it will probably have to tile vertically for reaching player height! -At least, if you want the brick sizes to match their real-world application. It may look strange in-game if you don't scale accordingly.

It looks like it's only large enough for a sign decal or something. Not an entire wall height.

Good idea. I'll try that on the in-game texture.

I'll try this too, if I find a wall which is high enough. But even that big, the texture looks nice.

I also keep the original textures in order to edit them if I have to. This way I don't have to make a new texture out of the same photo.

The detail texture's scale is not bigger than 256x256, because it makes bad effects when I sharpen the image. I will upload an image to show you what happens. But later.

Developer notes: August 2010
Demon concept

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

This is my first successful attempt to draw a demon. I have drawn this in order to save the idea and to help while making the model.
This is only the shape. There is still some more info left to add. I'm also still working on the story.

WOW! That's really nice. You have moved the list of paper from the desk to the wall.

I just HAD to post to say that that scene is so beautiful, I really really love the background. It's just how my dream computer location would be like.

Makes me feel good somehow.

Hey where is the mouse n keyboard? ^^

Oh, nice, that looks really sleek. Would you sit on the floor while you use that?

Also, there's no lighting coming from the lava lamp? -And the computer case is practically a black void with a few lights. Also, the whole scene or the dark objects are too dark to see any of their detail.

Nevertheless, it looks like a really cool scene. And boy that must be in a high-rise apartment, because it looks like the city view is pretty far down!

I know I said I think I was finished but I think I'd like to work on it a bit more and I think one of the things would be to add a mouse and keyboard to the scene. smiley

The wood surface the computer is on is a desk. If you look to the right you can see the edge of the desk.

There is subtle light coming from the lava lamp. The surface of the desk surrounding the lava lamp, the blinds and the letter on the right have a pinkish tint from the lava lamp.

I hate heights in real life so I thought it would have been exciting for me for this scene to take place in some sort of high rise building. What you see outside the window is a night time photo of Tokyo. smiley

My first ever character model:

It's for a project our whole class is working on. I've decided to model a 70's style low poly Pimp. So far I've only textured the hat and shoes, next is the pants, then the jacket then hands and face. Then I'm gonna model love heart shaped glasses and a walking stick and get those textured to.

Ah, I never noticed it. But boy, that's a long way to lean over to reach your computer! (but my next guess would be that bachelor probably has a wireless keyboard and mouse, and thus, only needs a nice recliner to sit back on while he surfs the web. smiley

About the Pimp: -That's hilarious. smiley I gotta say, I could never do character models. I can't draw organic people, and I could definitely never build monster/character models. That's just a field I envy for those who can. And, if you can master this, then more power to ya!

The hat is textured nicely... although the length of the torso, makes me think of a missionary (minus the leopard skin around the hat denoting otherwise smiley )

Is that supposed to be the coat hes wearing?

-Don't lose the angle of the hat, that'll make it in the end! smiley

I'm in the same boat as you. I never thought I would be able to model characters either but it turns out there are ways you can and you don't need to posses some sort of magic powers as I once thought. smiley

I guess I should tell you this now before you get too far ahead ... he needs a cane.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Oh defiantly, one step ahead of ya smiley:

I haven't modeled the cane yet because I'd like to add the bones first (which are required for animation) so I can move his arm down to see how long the cane needs to be and so I can get it looking right and such. And before I add the bones I want to finish texturing the rest of the character. smiley

Texturing is chugging along, I've started working on his jacket/chest:

For the face I'm planning to use this photo of Terry Crews (for the lol's):
