Hey all, Im at it again with another serious Irken military picture. I recently got to see, on the internet, a deleted scene from the show that showed New York in ruin as the Irken armada blasts it to bits. Obviously this was cut because of 9/11. Anyway one of the first things you see in this short scene is this:

It's hard to make out but you can see the Massive, the armada flag ship, hovering in the upper left and in the middle is a sinking ship and the statue of liberty. But the important part is the line of ships on the beach. These are called Spittle Runners and for some reason I just thought it looked so cool how they were all parked there like that

Info on Spittle Runners here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spittle_Runner

So anyway that inspired me to draw this (what I got so far on photoshop):

I made up the uniforms for the ship crew lined in front because we never got to see the crews in the show. Obviously the taller Irken with the gold lines on the uniform is the captain of one of these ships. When I finally get to the background Im planning on making it a alien desert world simular or just like

Hobo 13 here (thus explains the tan dust on the rear glass):

I plan to, if people show interest, keep updating as I photoshop this.

Questions/ Comments?

I think your stuff looks great. I would definately be interested in seeing the progression of this picture.

I would also like to see you draw something other than Invader Zim art. It's pretty obvious you have talent - expand your horizons, and show us other stuff!!

It was four days before anyone commented on my knife model image

As always, I see talent in your drawings, and you've improved since last time I saw your work. I look forward to seeing the finished product image

[EDIT]
What Finger said...

lol

Haven't seen the show, but I think it looks very good, seems like you have talent.

And it'd be fun to see your progress with this.

[edit] hah, two new posts before I had even finished my reply.

Agreed I do need to do other stuff, and for that matter make my OWN style. It's hard though perhaps I can draw some combine stuff next time. ^^

Update: I got the bridge and window done now.

LOL, talking about making your own style, and then straight away saying "maybe I'll draw some combine stuff" <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">

Very impressive work though man, keep it up.

The inside of the spittle runner looks awesome, very clean and very convincing.

Man, you really have some talent there! I'm jealous!

I can't offer any C&C on this, because I like what I see. If you want some real feedback on your art from a forum full of real (and aspiring) artists I'd check out penciljack.com/forum

It just seems like a better place to get some serious feedback on your drawings.

Have to study proportions. I might even suggest something like Gray's Anatomy or something to be honest. It wont teach you how to draw, but it would be an invaluable resource.

If you don't understand the basics of creating a drawing (not saying you don't, I don't really know) such as building a frame before detailing, then you'd have to work on that kind of stuff first.

Other than that ... practice. Practice what you'd like to be able to draw ... that's the only way you'll do it.

If you want to draw more realistic stuff (which would actually help out a lot, even if you want to go into other styles) then just look for reference photos. Find a nice looking pose of some person and try to replicate it by drawing.

Anyway, that's about it. Shadowing and light source stuff is pretty basic ... I mean, if you know how light works ... then there's nothing to it. As for shading techniques none are particularly difficult, just time consuming <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Make different pieces to practice a particular skill until you're satisfied with your work (which, just to let you know, will be never.) It will at least force you to always "strive"

For instance, the last IZ art you put up wasn't nearly as nice as this stuff. It's obvious that you've gotten better at it.

Other than miscellaneous tips, there's really nothing else to it. (I mean stuff specific to a certain medium, like computer art with a tablet or something.)

I can't really suggest much else besides keeping your pencil sharp and unless you're very skilled, don't use a mechanical pencil too often (Tends to make harder lines)

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Ok just an update. I finally finished all the ships so I just need to finish the crew and I can do the background.

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/6748/spittlerunnercamp7hs.jpg

The only thing I hate about this so far is that the nearest ship's cockpit is at an angle were it looks like your looking up at it, which is good. But the two others are at an angle that is almost at eye level. I looks really bad, almost like they are lower down or something.

Half-dude.. your general perspective is way off on that picture, and that's why you're having trouble getting things to look right. You're creating a forced persepective image, building the illusion of ships and pilots descending out towards the horizon. When doing images like this, you should start by establishing your horizon, then drawing a few perspective lines as guides to help you line everything up.

I'll try to dissect your image if I have a chance, so you can see where you went wrong.

Finger has already commented on the perspective so I'll leavev that alone. It looks like a nice pic. I like it. You should really post it on Sijun's forum. Get tons of comments on that board.
