I felt I needed to contribute to the Art Forum, but I only have two simple drawings scanned, and they aren't very good. But I'll show them nonetheless!

I'll be back.

Yeah, so this picture was influenced by a rather tasteless photograph from history. See if you can figure it out

Yeah, but she's recoiling in horror, or at least that was the idea. It works better when you know what it's based on...

I think the face of the woman in the 2nd one is wither too long or too narrow. I'm not sure if you intended it to look like that, but I'd suggest lowering the eyes a tad and generally squishing the face.
How long have you been drawing? [addsig]

You're absolutely correct. My drawings of figures tend to get distorted if I'm not actually looking at a photograph, which is why her shoulder and forearm are too big and her face is too long.

I've been drawing for a long time... for some reason I still have drawings that I did when I was 6.

And KJ, my inspiration on that picture is from my general ability to repulse girls. So here is this guy giving a flower with good intentions and the girl is recoiling like he just put a gun to her head.... uplifting, ain't it?

I like the proportioning in the torso, that's most peoples problem area.

To help you out on the face and hands, here's the "rules" for proportioning them:

Eyes: mid way between the top of the head and bottom of the chin, before the neck starts, space the eye line into 5 equal partitions accross the face, two of them are the width for the eyes.

Nose: The nose line is half way in between the eye line and teh chin line, before the neck. The nose can be about as long as you want really, but usually the nostrils are out the the inner corner of the eyes. (extend a line down from the inner corner and those are the outer edge of the noses nostrils).

Mouth: mouth line is less then 1/2 down from the remaining space, just a little less, not much. the corners of the mouth usually extend from to the center of the pupils. (draw a line from the center of the pupils down and that should be the end point of the mouth, while closed, smiling is different).

Ear: This might seem a bit large, but, it's true lol. The top of the ear starts at the top part of the eyebrow. The bottom of the ear is at the bottom of the nose (the part that is connected to the face, not the bridge). In other words, extend a line horizontially from the top of the eye brow and from the bottom of the nose, and that is the height of the ear. Obviously this is a little different if the brow is up, such as excitment or something.

Hair: You seem to have this part down, but, the hair line (where the hair meets the forehead, is about 1/3 rd down from the top of the head. so it's higher then 1/2 the distance between the eye line and the top of the head. Also, this isn't for Yak, but, remember hair SITS on top of the head, it ISN'T the head, unless the person is bald and it's cartoony so you want a shave effect.

Proportion:

Male: the head width should be the same as each shoulder width from the head, for a normally broad male. So, the entire width of the torso at the shoulders should be 3 of that figures head widths, this is of course approximate.

Female: The same as the male except it is about 1/2 to 3/4ths of the width, instead of one whole head width.

Hands: in general: the palm of the hand is about half the size of your face, not your head, but your face, so about from the chin to the nose, in a rather circular area is the size of a persons palm.

whew. work on that stuff and your proportioning problems should get better. also, try drawing models, like from magazines. . . I know that sounds wierd, but what it will do is allow you to work on normal proportioning. Drawing everyday people sometimes isn't that easy, because you'll meet a guy with dumbo ears or something like that, these rules are pretty loose, if you're looking at someone and they don't fit the rule then break the rule, they're mostly guidelines anyway.

I hope that helps [addsig]

If there is any kind of personality that I truly despise, it's someone who is insecure, selfish, confused about their identity, petty, insincere, and manipulative.

Unfortunately, many people my age have plenty of these characteristics, and still more unfortunate, most of them happen to be women.

Thus, we have a generation of young lads, fully believing in the romantic notion that women spend their entire day fantasizing about the nature of true love and ponies, who get their balls/heart stomped when they find that it's not true.

WHAT - ME, BITTER?!

Ah, the American suburban teenager. Well off, given plenty of opportunity, and morally inept. A classic example of what happens when people begin to reject the notion that there can be any moral standard that people can be held to.

Sex? Why not? The fact that you could destroy entire lives in two minutes because you can't put on a condom without screwing up means nothing. And if you do end up impregnating some poor girl, she can just stroll into the nearest Planned Parenthood and crush an innocent life before it sees the light of day. Hooray!

Drugs? Sounds good! I could destroy my career, academic or otherwise - but it would be worth it, because marijuana is cool! Especially when you drive around when stoned. After all an innocent life mean nothing - except when it's yours.

Suicide? I'm up for it! Because it's everybody's individual right to screw over the lives of everyone who loves them - but your parents can't take away the keys to your Explorer when you step out of line; that's injustice!

Money? Yes please! Even if I have to manipulate and steal from the people who care about me, I have to get the new basketball shoes, or whateverthef**k it is as of this hour.

Note that my remarks on suicide and abortion do not apply to the entirety of either issue, but if you want me to explain myself, I will.

But that's a rant for another day - back to the drawing.
