Ive added some displacements behind the skyboxes to make it look more realistic, but one of them somehow disappears at the certain angle when you look at it. Do you know why and how to stop this from happening? smiley

Displacements behind the skyboxes? What do you mean by that? The displacements stick outside the level or through the brush textures with the sky texture?

It doesnt need to have to do with the skybox. It's just beyond the skybox so you can see it but not walk to it.

Is the displacement in a 3D Skybox?

You accidentally the whole skybox? ???

Could be a weird vis effect.
If you actually placed this outside the skybox, no wonder.

it could of course be because its outside the skybox, but the other displacements that can be seen on the picture are outside as well and I believe Ive seen it inside somewhere too although Im not sure.

Sorry man, I don't get it. You didn't seriously put this outside the map? If you did, the problem is so obvious, the question sounds a little funny...

Do you mean it is inside the skybox? Like, outside the map itself but inside the "sky_camera" area of the 3D skybox? If so, it is probably hidden by vis. Note that brushes with the "skybox" or "nodraw" texture can block visibility while still being fully transparent. This can result in odd cuts and disappearances.

Nevertheless, I'm confused...

Sorry, but I'm really running out of patience... Please read your thread from the beginning. There is no way we could possibly guess your problem.

I'm totally confused as to what your trying to tell us. smiley

I think you mean that you have the displacement inside a 3D skybox.

Maybe you could take some screenshots of this displacement in Hammer?

this is how I meant it:

Weird.. see I considered that but then thought how would it show up in game if it's outside the world.

In any case, there is no point in doing that, I'm surprised it showed up ingame! If you want the displacement to appear distant than you need to make a 3D skybox or make the world big enough so that you can place the displacement at a far enough distance.

I saw that in some standard TF2 map so I used it behind the skybox. Im not sure its because of the skybox though.

Accepted Answer
If even the smallest piece of displacement is visible to the player, like just a small corner sticking through a skybrush, then the whole displacement will get rendered. However, if the engine says that that small corner is not visible to the player anymore, then the whole displacement is ignored.
This will likely be the reason for your displacement appearing/disappearing when you look at it from different angles.
