Hi everyone!

I am just trying to open "Model Viewer", but then I get that error saying:

"unable to load manifest file" - scripts/game_sounds_manifest.txt

Btw, this only happens when I have selected the HL2:Ep1 engine version and HL2-DM. If I select HL2 instead of HL2-DM then it doesn't spit that error, but it doesn't open Model Viewer either.
It works fine if I select the Orange Box engine v. though.
It seems this problem is very specific to HL2-DM

I have already tried "Refreshing SDK Content" and "Reset Game Configurations" from the Source SDK window without avail smiley

Any ideas?

I have no idea how to extract files from the gfc files, so in case you suggest that please explain how

Hey there,

I'm not very experienced with the game_sounds_manifest.txt file, but I also had some issues with it.
Though it had nothing to do with Source SDK.

Anyways, you could try to make a backup of the file and delete it afterwards.
The file is either in the Source SDK Folder (ex. C:/Steam/steamapps/[username]/sourcesdk) or in a game directory like HL2DM ((ex. C:/Steam/steamapps/[username]/half-life 2 deathmatch)

Next, open up the Source SDK and try again.

If you're having troubles finding the file, try to use the windows' search thingy.

Please let us now if it worked smiley

Unfortunately I can't do it, simply because the file (game_sounds_manifest.txt) in question is not around smiley - I did perform a search in my steamapps folder.

What next?

Can't say I've had this problem before or know how to fix it. Try a google search and see what comes up if you haven't already.

According to some posts out there this file is supposed to be in here:

- for some strange reason "" (dashes) are not showing above smiley

But the only file I have there is: weapon_bugbait.ctx

It has today's date, I wonder if it has something to do with the disappearance of my other file smiley

Some people were advising to extract it from the respective GCF file. Except I don't know how to smiley

I found one of these files in a diff folder though, here:
Little Office is/was an experimental mod I had started earlier.

Judging by all these sound files above, I guess I should have a similar number of files in the Deatchmatch scripts folder too, not just the manifest. After all, it seems the manifest has to load all these files once loaded, right?

So maybe my next question is: how to extract these files from the GCF file?

hmm, that would make sense, because now games like HL2 DM and SCC and DOD, all run off of the EP1 engine, and you have to run that game in order for their relative SDK content to load properly. Hmm, nice find.

That is something that we (well Larchy actually) were trying to fix for a long time. The '/' icon should work though
