I have been trying and trying to get these textures to perform and look as they do in the images he posted. I have fail each time.. anyone on here have some tips, advice, or just a good explanation on how to get these to work properly? Thank you in advance for your time and advice.

I'm not sure... it's almost as if they added lots of env_sprite's/env_glow's above the lava texture. But that is just a theory.

This was taken and translated from German to English from a water texture they also have.. I am wondering if this is how the lava texture is supposed to be used as well. Still not to sure on what to do.. but will give this a try and see.

So in order to achieve the realistic effect, you must a) use the "Realistic Pool Water" as a water and b) every all under water parts of the pool 1 unit thick, "refraction" set-textured func_illusionaries. In short, the beautiful effect occurs only with a combination of both textures.
