Hello !
I've recently bought half life 2 and i have this issue when i'm trying to "Create a mod" for hl2.
When i open up source SDK and i choose "Source Engine 2007" on the "Engine Version" i can't choose anything on "Current game".
I do have half life 2 on the account but i can't get the option to mod it.
But when i select the Engine Version "Source Engine 2009" and then i try to use half life 2 but when i click "Create a mod" i get the message "Support for creating total conversions are not available using this engine version".
Please help me out !.
Thanks in advance !
[Sorry for my bad english]

I don't know off-hand, besides googling it, have you checked the VDC? (Valve Developer Community).
Link: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SDK_Docs
I remember the 2007 version not being supported any longer for some of the games. I'm not sure if that includes Half-Life 2 or just the episodes. But I do know that before attempting to mod any Source engine game, you need to run it first. Run Half-Life 2 first, then start the SDK.
Bar that, it's been too long for me to remember what the correct thing to do here is.
Try searching our Source Editing forums. I think this issue has come up before.
